TWO NEW STRIPES REMOVED
After practice @Mabernathy04 had his stripe removed. #MyAll #EarningStripes ➖
Earlier today @Venzell55 has his stripe removed!
VQ QUICK HITS
-Wiesman returnede and worked with the one's at RG. Jack Jones also worked at RG. Kendrick worked at guard and tackle.
-Foreman worked at nickel
-Jack Jones, North, Martin, Lewis all returned to practice.
-Even Berry handled first team KO returns.
Tennessee did do some two-point drill work with Ethan Wolf finding the end zone on a pass from Josh Dobbs. The second team defense got a stop in their one try with Dimarya Mixon bursting through the line.
Wide receiver Jauan Jennings continues to impress as he had another one-handed snare and he continues to get first team reps with the offense.
As for Jennings, he appears to be pushing for first-team reps in a tightly contested battle among the wideouts, working a great deal in the slot, and he also seems like a natural fit at receiver. He made multiple one-handed snags working with the quarterbacks and just makes things look easy.
-Justin Martin returned with a brace but appeared to be moving well.
RUCKER'S RAPID REVIEW
-North was back, wearing green jersey, as was Justin Martin and LaTroy Lewis
-McKenzie and McNeil also wore green
-Jack Jones was back and worked with first team G
-Worked with return specialists: Evan Berry, Foreman, Pearson, Johnson, Kelly, Abernathy, Abernathy.
THIS AND THAT: Tennessees quarterbacks worked on accuracy drills, dropping back and throwing the ball into a net, and they seemed to perform pretty well in that drill.
Its still tough to tell who the Vols are favoring at first-team middle linebacker, but sophomore Colton Jumper got some reps with the first-team group Tuesday.
Foreman got reps with the first-team at nickel, but Martin returning to 100 percent in the next couple of weeks could change that. Well have to wait and see. Some still believe Martin ultimately will start at corner and junior Cameron Sutton will slide over to the nickel spot.
Offensive linemen Dylan Wiesman and Brett Kendrick, as expected, were back on the practice field, with Kendrick getting some work at right tackle during the portion of practice that was open to media.
DUSTIN DOPIRAK
Sophomore safety Todd Kelly Jr. also returned after missing the last two practices with an illness.
Scouts from the New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks were in attendance.
COACH/PLAYER QUOTES
JONES: Great day to get back out and play football. Everything is about the continuation of improvement.
JONES: We're about 11 days out so we have limited opportunities to get better. Every rep is crucial.
JONES: We're going to have to rely on a very large freshman class again to play. Just about every player in that class will play.
JONES: We need some of our youngsters to step up and embrace the special teams game.
JONES: We had two individuals have their stripes taken off today: @Venzell55 (Boulware) and @Mabernathy04 (Abernathy).
JONES: We'll try to give @Elite_made (Justin Martin) as much as he can handle. It will be a long road for him but we don't want to put too much on him.
JONES: We're still mixing it up on the OL. The different positions they've been playing have really been beneficial.
JONES: There is a lot with continuity, but the big thing is competitive. All the individuals along our OL have done a good job.
JONES: We started to give some individuals [a specific position]. We haven't been reckless in where we place guys.
JONES: @Finally_Maybin did a presentation to our team in training camp on special teams. He had clips from him during his freshman year.
JONES: @Finally_Maybin and @CurtMaggitt have been a great voice to the team in terms of special teams.
JONES: Competition is ongoing at LB. We want guys to compete every day.
JONES: @Mabernathy04 is doing a very good job. We've asked a lot of him and have moved him around. @m_foreman22 is getting a lot of work.
MOSELEY: @Mabernathy04 is a very smart guy, he's always in the film room.
REEVES-MAYBIN: I feel like our defense is a lot better as a whole this year. I think we'll be a great defense.
REEVES-MAYBIN: We've got to be prepared for Bowling Green's tempo, so we're working on our conditioning.
JENNINGS: Everyone (WRs) in the room is expected to know every position
JENNINGS: It's the same message across the whole coaching staff - 63
