COORDINATOR INTERVIEWS
Coach JANCEK: I just want (the new guys) to keep fighting and continue to push the threshold
JANCEK: You can't play hard if you aren't in great physical condition
JANCEK: Khalil is a hard worker, you've seen him drop some weight since he has been here
DeBORD: It's hard for our linemen (in the heat). They are playing in a telephone booth.
DeBORD: Today we did not improve one percent. We need to have better intensity all the time. We've got guys that are learning that.
DeBORD: The passing game is the part of the offense that takes the longest to develop. We're making strides, getting better every practice.
Dustin Dopirak: Mike DeBord wouldn't confirm that Marcus Jackson has a serious injury, but did say that a number of O-line guys are "banged up." Said that's led to some shuffling on the offensive line. Brett Kendrick has been working in at left guard, and others have moved around. DeBord also said he's pleased with what he's seen from Jauan Jennings. Said he knew Jennings could run, but he's quicker than he thought.

-Jennings continues to impressJones had earlier started the 'Circle' drill by calling out Dillon Bates and Colton Jumper who appeared to battle to a stalemate. Jalen Reeves-Maybin looked to slightly get the better of Quarte Sapp in their matchup, though Sapp definitely impressed. Jakob Johnson and Darrin Kirkland had a spirited battle, as Johnson continued to work on offense with the tight ends. Kenny Bynum looked to slightly get the better of Gavin Bryant in their matchup and Sapp and Austin Smith looked to be mostly a draw.
Moving onto the big fellas, Charles Mosley appeared to move Quay Picou around in their matchup. Coleman Thomas looked like he got the better of Brett Kendrick in a matchup of offensive linemen fighting for playing time.
Jones finished the drill by having freshmen Drew Richmond and Venzell Boulware square off with one another and the head coach had them repeat the match-up four consecutive times, not something we've seen before. The first few times they squared off it looked like a close contest but Richmond definitively won the last rep, moving Boulware out of the circle.

-Marcus Jackson out 8 weeks or more. Jones getting looks at RG.
-Jashon Robertson missing today
-No Croom or SaulsberryDEFENSIVE BACK DEPLETION?: At least three prominent defensive backs sophomore cornerback Justin Martin, sophomore safety Evan Berry and freshman safety Stephen Griffin were not on the field Monday during practice periods that were open to reporters. A source told GoVols247 that Martin has a minor knee injury, but were not sure at this point why Berry wasnt on the field for at least the first five periods of Mondays practice. Griffin has been working out on the side in a walking boot with an apparently foot or ankle injury of some kind, but were not sure how serious that situation is or isnt. Since hes on a boot and not on crutches, odds are its not overly serious, but we dont have confirmation on any specifics there.
-Pearson in green, still no pads
-Branisel not there (as expected) Max Arnold returned. Fulmer was there for the first time this season.

KNOXNEWS UPDATE
Senior wide receiver Von Pearson wore a green jersey in his second day back after being reinstated from suspension. He still isn't in pads, but he made an impressive touchdown reception in a red zone drill, leaping up to catch the pass and getting one foot down in the back of the end zone.
Tennessee opened with the Circle of Life drill. Freshman offensive linemen Drew Richmond and Venzell Boulware battled to a draw three times before Richmond finally defeated Boulware.
