Practices started at 6:35 p.m. and updates should start rolling out in a little over an hour. No coach/player interviews tonight mean nothing new on Von is expected.

VQ QUICK HITS
Running backs are impressive, even in non-pad workouts. Jalen Hurd and Alvin Kamara are obviously head and shoulders above the rest of the group, but John Kelly has looked quick in agility drills.

With no pads on the skill players really have a chance to shine, particularly the wideouts. One guy who is starting camp under a microscope is Josh Malone and if tonight's work is any clue, he seems to be responding to the pressure.

The sophomore definitely looks the part and he caught everything thrown his way tonight during passing drills with the quarterbacks. Malone is such a fluid athlete that with so many obvious gifts that it's hard to imagine him not putting it all together at some point. At the very least he seems to be coming out of the gates strong.

Defensively, the Vols continue to explore far greater depth and skill along the secondary. It will be one of the more competitive position groups anywhere on the field.

-Tuttle was limping noticeably
-Austin Sanders practiced again with a club on his right hand
-Hurd looks quicker at 242
-North, Maggitt and Barnett appear slimmer
-Croom appears healthy, Vincent Perry looks smooth and athletic, Abernathy can help the Vols, Joe Young is bigger and quicker than most suspect.

Picou has been at each of Tennessee’s two practices, including Wednesday’s, but he has not been in uniform, instead watching from the sidelines in a workout shirt and shorts with the rest of the team in jerseys and helmets.

Picou was not allowed to enroll in summer school classes at Tennessee because he had not yet qualified academically. Tennessee coach Butch Jones told govols247.com on Tuesday night that he expects Picou to be fine academically, but that because he joined the team later than the rest of the roster, he still has to go through all of the required physicals with team doctors to be cleared to play.

I am very impressed with dormady to this point, i haven't seen coach jones talk this much or speak as highly on a back up since he has been here.

Yeah, I get the impression that Butch is very relieved to have found a solid backup QB so early in the preparations for 2015...think he was hiding some of his worry in January-February-March, knowing he had nothing but freshmen behind Josh. Believe he's a lot more comfortable now.

Can't wait to see more DL footage. Before you go to bed tonight say a prayer for the safety of those poor kids on Bowling Green's OL.

I agree! He talked a lot about dobbs maturity when he was a back up and his intelligence but never gave him as high praise as he has given dormady. The question yesterday about jones and his first day turned quickly to a compliment of dormady. I was impressed when i saw him in the spring movin guys in place and efficiently running the hurry up offence. You can tell he has done his work studying the play book.
