Ralph D. Russo, the Associated Press' national college football reporter, is the latest to jump on board with the Tigers in his early bowl projections. The veteran writer has Auburn in the College Football Playoff facing Notre Dame in a semifinal game at the Cotton Bowl.

I wonder how many games Ralphie predicts the Vols to win? 6-6 last year, got an invite to the Gator Bowl and the fans brought it. Bowls are all about money and how many fans/money a team will bring... Thats why vandy won 9 and only got an invite to the Birmingham doodie bowl.

The Music City Bowl is no longer a 6-6 SEC team bowl.

If we win 8 games this season as most predict, there's a pretty good chance we head back to Nashville in December.

LSU was 8-4 with a 4-4 SEC record and played in it last year.

It's part of a group of 6 bowls that are determined by the SEC. Any of them could be for 6-6 teams. Here's the SEC bowl tie-ins:

SEC

If No. 1 isn’t in College Football Playoff:

1. Allstate Sugar Bowl or Discover Orange Bowl
2. Capital One Bowl vs. ACC or Big Ten No. 2

The conference will assign teams to the respective bowls in this pool:

Outback Bowl vs. Big Ten No. 3
Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl vs. ACC or Big Ten
TaxSlayer Gator Bowl vs. ACC or Big Ten
AutoZone Liberty Bowl vs. Big 12
AdvoCare Texas Bowl vs. Big 12
Belk Bowl vs. ACC

Next Tier:

Birmingham Bowl vs. ACC (if available)

With all of that said, there is one thing more useless than pre-season polls, and that's pre-season bowl predictions.

The Georgia qb situation is a disaster at best, especially since they took G. Lambert. I really dont see them in a bcs bowl.

I actually think we're in better shape at QB than we were last season. And our receiver corps, which is deeper, should make the QB position easier. Especially given our running game. I'd love to have a Murray behind center, but I think we have adequate talent to at least vie for the East. Time will tell.

Someone might want to read up on the definition of the word "Prediction".

And the MCB doesn't automatically mean we underachieved. Very possible that we're in the MCB at 8-4/7-5 which is about what I'm projecting us as, given the SEC knows the game would be a sell out and they decide who goes where regardless of record.

Yeah, it's not 100% based on record, but I do remember reading that the MCB is trying to move away from being considered a lower-tier bowl on par with Birmingham or Liberty.
