From Robert Neyland to Johnny Majors to Phillip Fulmer, great coaches have defined Tennessee’s football history.

Then there’s Neyland Stadium, Vol Navy and the Pride of the Southland.

Somewhere in Tennessee’s history, though, are some great players not named Peyton Manning.

any team without Leonard Little on it is no team I would chose...he would be my first pick....then i would get to take cc 2nd.

While it is hard to argue with any of the choices, it's also difficult to imagine an all time team without others (Lauricella, Feathers, Reynolds, etc). Each is defined by the era in which they played.

What about Charlie Garner. In his 2 years at Tennessee, he averaged 6 ypc his first year and an unbelievable 7.3 ypc his last year in 1993 while getting 159 carries. He also lead the entire nation in yards per attempt in 1993.

Modern era players are better athletes, just because of better training. So if I'm picking a team to bet my house on, I'll pick them. But greatness must be compared to the accomplishments of the era. For example, Carl Lewis had better times and records than Jesse Owens, but his accomplishments were not greater. That said, there's no way Doug Atkins or Bob Johnson can be left off.

What about Reggie Cobb and Chuck Webb? They were unstoppable.
My top All-Time team RB would be
1st Team. 2nd team
1.Chuck Webb 1. Reggie Cobb
2. Jamal Lewis 2. Travis Henry

3rd Team
1. Travis Stephens
2. Johnny Majors

Chuck Webb was the best RB ever to put on orange.

You're right and even by the standards of today, Atkins was a big, strong and athletic defensive end.

With the exception of Dale Carter, I'd be inclined to exclude any juco. Certainly Cordarrel Patterson shouldn't be on a Best of All Time list... he had an outstanding year, but it was just one year. Tim McGee had a far better career.

I'd add Eddy Brown or Bobby Majors as a punt returner, keep Gault as the kick-off returner.

I know you meant Michael (Anthony played for USC) but really? He was good when he played but missed a lot of time. I like the Burnett pick though. If we had an all time underrated team he would be near the top.

Gotta have Harry Galbreath on that line. Majors said the was the best run blocker he coached.

I think Webb was great, but Charlie Garner was the most talented rb I've seen at UT. His carries were limited because we had 3 backs (Stewart, Hayden) that could have started for anyone.

My second rb would be a pre acl tear Jamal Lewis.

As far as linebackers go-- make a spot for Andy Spiva. 194 tackles in a season and 500+ for a career?!

Patterson is the best return man we've ever had.
