Grant Ramey: Butch Jones thanking students for coming today, asking they help Tennessee win "every single home game."
Grant Ramey: Butch mentioned Eric Berry, Peyton Manning, Reggie White. Said when they play a home game that's what they represent.

Danny Parker: #Vols WR Josh Malone runs a hand-timed 4.56-second 40-yard dash at #Tennessee's 12th practice of the spring. https://t.co/BtG4oaFSUl

EVAN BERRY: The students really for us going! It was awesome to have them here with use. #StudentPractice15 http://t.co/lqHAqbVxOc

KAMARA: There were more students out here today than I played in front of last year. It was great to have them. http://t.co/XgMhyUMqSF
KAMARA: Jalen and I work well together. We want to be the best, CMG (Chain Moving Gang). We have to have furious energy on offense.

HURD: it was great to have the students out and have them show us the love.
HURD: Evan Berry is the best dancer on the team. http://t.co/DDKhGoPCSu
HURD: Alvin and I learn from each other. We have each other's back.

DOBBS: we accomplished our goals today and took strides forward. We are always focused and motivated. We have to finish spring strong.
DOBBS: You come to Tennessee to win conference and national championships. That is the expectation. That's why we were recruited here.

Fast Five
1. Media were sent home but students were allowed to stay (he mad).
2. Vols were back in pads. QBs in red no contact jersey's. Also no contact: Hurd, North, Howard.
3. Several injured Vols worked in helmets and shorts: Barnett, Jakob Johnson, Kyle Phillips, Darrin Krikland Jr.
4. Kamara was back in pads but didn't see him taking any contact.
5. Gaulden out for the rest of spring

JONES: Thank you to our students to coming out for Student Appreciation Day. It's beneficial to practice in game-like situations.
JONES: I thought our defense did a very good job of keeping our offense out of the end zone in red zone situations.
JONES: At most universities, student attendance is down. At ours, it's up.
JONES: When the offense did score in the red zone, it was on a broken play. Containing the QB is critical for our defense.
JONES: We were able to run the ball effectively but in the throw game we were not able to win on the edges.
JONES: I think both @A_kamara6 and @MrHurd_1 know that they need each other. They respect each other and push each other.
JONES: We're competing at every position on offense. It's about finding the best 5 on the OL. You can never have enough competition.
JONES: When you have competitive depth in your program, you have to earn your spot every day. @ClamCrowder57 competed every day.
JONES: @gotmy_weightup (Dontavis Blair) has taken some steps in the right direction. He's very athletic and I can see him making strides.
JONES: I've been very pleased with @EMoseley_4. He comes back just like he does and competes every day.
JONES: The CB position is as competitive a position as the OL at this point.
JONES: We all know what @Finally_Maybin can do, he is a model of consistency. But who is going to fill the other LB spots?
JONES: Rashaan Gaulden will be our about 6 weeks after undergoing hand surgery. He’s a great kid, had a great spring. Matured a lot.
JONES: @UTCoachDeBo is building relationships. That office has never seen more people, it's like a revolving door.
JONES: The big thing is it's operation time for the punt game. I thought @T_Rev31 (Trevor Daniel) did a very good job.
JONES: Part of being a good kick returner is having good instincts about it. @aSuperManDoe (Evan Berry) has those instincts.

Grant Ramey: Butch on why he didn't dance after practice: "You guys showed too much video of that last year. She told me not to dance."

Jones opened the day in front of the students with the Circle of Life drill as redshirt freshman Charles Mosley and Shy Tuttle got the first rep with Mosley getting win. Other notable winners was Andrew Butcher over Jack Jones, Emmanuel Moseley over Malik Foreman, and Evan Berry got the best of Todd Kelly, Jr..

One other match-up of note was Mack Crowder against Coleman Thomas. Jones on the microphone asked the student who was going to be the starting center. Crowder won the battle and showed as much emotion afterwards as he ever has. Thomas worked almost the entire day on Thursday with the number one offensive unit at center.

Talk about it in The General's Quarters
Speaking of the offensive line, Dylan Wiesman beat Kendall Vickers and Dontavius Blair beat LaTroy Lewis.

The practice overall was a much more of a practice and not a scrimmage as with the limited numbers, Tennessee continues to manage their injuries. The injured Vols were out on the practice field as they have been all week in helmets going through what individual drills that they can go through working on footwork and various technique work.

– Defensive back Devaun Swafford was the latest player to don a green non-contact jersey. He joins wide receivers Alton “Pig” Howard and Marquez North and running back Jalen Hurd.

— Though the entire practice was open to the students, only six periods were open to the media. One of the last open periods was an 11-on-11 drill in which each play was denoted as the “last play of the game,” with the offense needing to score a touchdown on that play to win. The defense won most of the battles, but the first team offense scored on a touchdown pass from quarterback Joshua Dobbs to wide receiver Von Pearson and a keeper around the left side by Dobbs. The second team scored on a touchdown throw from Quinten Dormady to wide receiver Josh Malone.

— That 11-on-11 drill showed some small lineup changes. The defense held out some of veterans, including senior safeties Brian Randolph and LaDarrell McNeil, cornerback Cameron Sutton and linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin. With them out, sophomores Evan Berry and Todd Kelly Jr played the first team safety spots. The Vols used three linebackers instead of a nickel. Redshirt junior Kenny Bynum and sophomores Colton Jumper and Cortez McDowell played those spots. Senior Chris Weatherd and redshirt junior LaTroy Lewis played first team defensive end and freshman Shut Tuttle and sophomore Kendal Vickers were the defensive tackles. Malik Foreman and Emmanuel Moseley were the cornerbacks.

I hope RDA can provide some quality depth at RB when he gets here in the fall.

Heard, AK and RDA looks real promising on paper.

More Circle of Life battles, better quality.

Watching Jennings abuse Dormady is a glimpse of things to come when they finally move him to the
other side of the ball.

Oh yeah, and Dylan Weisman destroyed Vickers, very promising. Blair looked good too. But I would
not say Colman Thomas got whooped, looked like a stalemate to me.

Pulled this from Finger's post, much better than the Youtube link.

Barnett and Phillips working at LB: One interesting thing of note was that Kyle Phillips and Derek Barnett, both working out in just helmets and workout gear as they rehab, were getting reps in individual drills with the linebackers. That obviously doesn’t necessarily mean a permanent position change or anything like that, but interesting that, at least right now, they are being used in that capacity.

Mosley is, er, heavy--needs to lose at least 25 pounds, based on what I see of him, and there is a lot to see.
