I bet he's going to create some havoc when offenses are trying to catch their breath in the 4th quarter.

...Stripling said, "Now it’s just about finding the right place for him and the right time of the game and all those things. …But he’s one of those kids that when you’re watching film and watching him run, you just go, ‘We’ve got to get that kid on the field more.’ He just has that fast twitch..."

Linebackers coach Tommy Thigpen echoed Stripling, saying the bottom line is Weatherd is the best pure speed rusher on Tennessee’s roster.

“You’ve got to figure out a way to get him on the field, because he does a trait that nobody else on our team possesses off the edge,” Thigpen said. “And he really is in unbelievable shape. He can run from sideline to sideline and play four quarters with the same speed he was in the first quarter. He does have a trait of rushing the passer and pursuing the ball from sideline to sideline.

“We’ve just to keep him coming along.”

I have heard multiple people that are around our program daily say Weatherd is hands down the best pass rusher on our team. I've also heard he has NFL potential as a pass rusher he's so good. We will see...

He seems very small to be on the line for anything other than obvious passing situations. Not sure how that would be getting him on the field more? Also, wonder if that means that Curt may be used more at linebacker than on the line this year? I remember watching Weatherd's launch off of the line and the kid definitely has some serious talent. I think he could have a break out year.

It makes me feel good when we are returning two ten plus sack guys, and neither of them are our best pass rusher.

This defense has the potential to be unbelievable.

The really talented depth we finally have for our D front 7 is amazing.

Rotation will be great because our talent and playmaking ability won't drop off when guys come out to get a breather.

No matter who's in the game we should still be making good plays and that's a huge step in rebuilding a solid program.

The FEAR of the Big Orange swarming bonecrunching D will soon be seen.

Eric Striker from Oklahoma is only 6'0" 220 lbs, but that didn't stop him from getting three sacks against Alabama in the 2014 Sugar Bowl and absolutely wreaking havoc against our us last year. He's undersized even for an outside linebacker, but Oklahoma sends him rushing the passer almost every down. Another player who dominated as an undersized pass-rusher was Corey Moore at Virginia Tech in the late 90s, who played as an every-down weakside DE at 5'11" 225 lbs. Moore had 31 sacks his final two seasons, and nearly won a national championship in 1999.

Weatherd is a little bigger than those two (6'4" 220 lbs), but even if he isn't an early-down defender against big running teams like Arkansas or Alabama I could see him thriving as a pass-rushing specialist like Striker or Moore. In any event, John Janzek certainly has a lot of cool toys to play with in our front seven now!

Sounds like they might want to let him block a couple dozen punts or possibly a field goal?? JMO

This defense has the potential to be the best we've had in close to 20 years. I truly believe that.
