I'm not certain of the details, but I'm pretty sure there was a radio show, years ago, who called Corso to get his thoughts on TN. Apparently he didn't realize he was on the phone with a radio show and said some really nasty stuff about UT.
Then there was this:
A commercial promoting ESPN's College Football GameDay that has begun running in the past couple of days comes off as less than complimentary of Tennessee fans. The UT football office was inundated with calls complaining about the spot.
In the spot, ESPN's Lee Corso is waiting for an elevator. When the doors open, a pig runs out and a large contingent of Vols fans can be seen in the elevator, including an overweight woman wearing a shower cap and robe. She hollers after the pig, ''Come here, Rocky Top!'' An elderly man wearing shorts who is hooked up to an IV bottle also can be seen, as can a couple making out in the back of the elevator.
Asked about the commercial yesterday, UT Coach Phillip Fulmer said: ''I've heard about, but I haven't seen it. I've got a tape of it on my desk. I won't say anything else about it right now.''
Athletic Director Doug Dickey issued a terse ''no comment.''
Officials at ESPN said they were unaware of any controversy.
This:
Many Vols fans hold ESPN responsible for Peyton Manning losing the 1997 Heisman Trophy to Michigan's Charles Woodson.
This:
After Woodson won, ESPN's Chris Fowler called the outrage of UT fans a ''trailer-park frenzy''.
And this:
Vols fans didn't take kindly to espn.com reports in 2000 of grade tampering allegations concerning the UT football program. No major violations were incurred.
