Got a question for the resident football expert. During today's game Iowa attempted an onside kick and the kicker fainted kicking to the right, backed up and then kicked to the left. Shouldn't that be considered a false start? Can the kicker halt his progress to the ball without penalty?

I'm trying to jibe this with the false start or offside call we incurred against Mizzou.

Thanks

No, just as when Houston kicked their second onside kick and the kicker faked to one side and then kicked to the other side, a kicker can do that. It is not considered a false start.

The team is moving in unison coming to the ball. They are ALL moving , they just can't cross the line the ball is on until it is kicked.

If he FAINTED, how was he able to back up and kick it?
