Jones already has as many SEC wins in 1.7 seasons as Dooley had in 3.

If we're looking for more bright sides to where we're headed:) Here's hoping that we can chalk 2 more SEC wins up this year before it's all said and done! #GBO

Same record against Florida, Georgia & Alabama as Dooley. Also they have the same records against all other ranked SEC opponents.

Dooley was the previous coach. The most logical metric to determine improvement would be to measure against his record. Doesn't mean that's where we want to end up.

Seems like head to head coaching match ups would be a good metric. Butch vs Dooley?

Wikipedia has his record at 4-19. I'd imagine they're not counting the last game due to the fact that he was fired at that time and didn't coach it?

Chaney got the win against Ky.

When did Dooley beat a ranked team?
Butch beat SCAR last year, a team that was ranked when we played them and ended the season ranked 4th.

I'm sure Dooley would've found a way to eff that game up, however, had he still been here.

Dooley's UT team was far more talented than anything Jones had at Cincinnati. In fact, Dooley's UT teams averaged in the top 20 of recruited talent, while Jones (even though he improved the Cincy roster, and over-performed his talent) was in the 80's. The argument you just made would say that any coach who loses to another coach is automatically worse than that coach, regardless of the talent available. Talent matters, immensely.

Not only is your statement nonsensical but it de-evolves the more you look at it. You say 'So Butch lost to Dooley head to head, therefore Dooley is better than Butch.' However, Butch has beaten Spurrier twice, and Spurrier beat Dooley three times. Therefore, using your logic, Spurrier is better than Dooley who is better than Butch who is better than Spurrier. Is Saban a worse coach than Freeze, or Sumlin? He has lost to both, you know. If so, where are their championship rings?

You just found another way to show that the transitive property doesn't work in football.

How is that a logical metric? He wasn't a very good HC at UT., so why use Dools as the measuring stick?

He isn't the measuring stick of where we are going, but is the measure of where we have come from. I think that logic makes sense.

To do as you seem to suggest would be to ignore the hole that the past decade has dug. It would be like asking a marathon runner who broke both legs and sat in a wheelchair for months how he can feel good about 'just' walking when he used to be able to win marathons.

No, we had superior talent than a middle of the pack big east team. Thats all. Dooley has never outcoached anyone in his entire career. He won off of talent or he didnt win at all.

I hate how people bash CBJ for being a Big East coach and "this is the SEC" rah rah and then give Dooley credit for beating him snd don't even consider the talebt gap. Its just dumb
