in the past 10 years at the FBS level:

* 2009 - Aldon Smith, Missouri: 11.5 sacks in 13 games (.88 avg)
* 2014 - Myles Garrett, Texas A&M: 11 in 10 games (1.1 avg)
* 2010 - Roosevelt Nix, Kent State: 10 in 12 games (.83 avg)
* 2014 - Derek Barnett, Tennessee: 9 in 10 games (.90 avg)

In addition, only 4 freshmen have recorded 18+ TFL:

* 2010 - Roosevelt Nix, Kent State: 20 TFL in 12 games (1.67 avg)
* 2009 - Aldon Smith, Missouri: 19 in 13 games (1.46 avg)
* 2012 - Devonte Fields, TCU: 18.5 in 13 games (1.42 avg)
* 2014 - Derek Barnett, Tennessee: 18 in 10 games (1.8 avg)

In the last 4 games Barnett has recorded 8 sacks and 12.5 TFL. FWIW, only 1 player in the SEC has recorded more than 24 TFL in the past 10 years (Alabama's Wallace Gilberry with 27 in '07).

Barnett is as impressive a freshman I've ever seen in Orange. He's Chuck Webb / Jamal Lewis / Carl Pickens good. A Frosh All-SEC and All-American lock.

Wow impressive stats yet no one talking about this dude. He may not be the best pass rusher as a freshman (Myles Garrett) but he is defintley the most well rounded freshman DE. Should defintley get some good recognition at the end of the year once everyone looks at the stats. I don't think he will break 27 TFL but 23-24 is not out of the question. Would also like 10 sacks along with Maggitt hopefully getting 10 as well.

Fun fact: I played high school ball at Arlington Martin with two of these guys. Devonte Fields and Myles Garrett.

His is unbelievably good. Like, literally. It feels like a fevor dream to see a freshman DE play this well after how bad our DL has been the last 4 years or so

He is amazing. Absolutely deserving of more attention from the media.

You forgot Michael Sam. He got more sacks than all those guys combined.

Let me just make a note here.

Myles Garrett had 8 of his 11 sacks against stalwart opponents Rice, Lamar and Sam Houston.

All of Barnett's sacks are against SEC opponents.

Lets just let the stats speak for themselves.

Garrett and Barnett have played multiple same opponents.

Alabama:

Garrett had 3 tackles. Barnett had 5.

South Carolina:

Garrett had 1 tackle, 1 sack. Barnett had 5 tackles, 3 sacks.

Ole Miss:

Garrett had 3 tackles, 1 sack. Barnett had 10 tackles, 3 sacks.

Overall in SEC games Garrett has 3 sacks. Barnett has 9.

I don't care a bit what some 5* heart-throb did against Sam Houston, Rice and Lamar.

Not to mention Barnett is tied for 5th in the nation for TFLs.
