So much is made of whether Jones has won such n such games, morale victories, recruiting, coach rebuilding comparasion...

I don't think its been pointed out enough how developed Jones classes (or class if you don't personally count his 1st year) have been. I have been very impressed with how the newcomers came in and right of the bat were making plays, the sophmores continuing from last year who were conntributing are still out there starting or competing...
Hurd Wolf Barnett Malone Pearson Sutton Maybin Vereen Kelly... that's not all but not only are these guys playing a ton of downs they are playing pretty decent.
Look at the top coaches. They lose players to graduation or injury and the backup comes in and plays like a starter. That's what coaching is all about. Does Butch worry us with some in game decisions? Yes but I get excited about this staff cuz of how they've developed these young guys in such a short time. Talent meams nothing if you Sunseri it.
I'm excited about when these guys become JRs and SRs backed up with more developed youngins.
Off to work. Hope this leaves some of you with a good nights rest.

Case in point, Worley is a better QB than last year. He will never be as good as some others but he is better this year.

A couple more top 10 recruiting classes should do it.

GO VOLS!

Well said, OP. Many of us, myself included, expected these kids to come in and compete because of the hype around them. It takes solid positional coaching to get these kids to the level they are playing that. That is why recruiting is still thriving despite our win/loss record.

Even with the development of younger players (and it has been noticed by many), one who looks at the UT football game with "eyes-wide-open" should be slightly astonished at how many freshman are in the 2-deep (or starting).

Its incredible really, that a major D1 school could have its coffers so completely depleted that a kid that played HS football last year is better than a kid who has 2-3 years in a college football system/conditioning program.

If you compare that to the military, rarely....and I mean rarely could a kid off the street show up and perform better than someone whose been enlisted for 2-3 years.

After you get tucked in at night and then wake up in the morning it is still about WINS & LOSSES!

Case in point, Worley is a better QB than last year. He will never be as good as some others but he is better this year.

Worley throws pretty well when he is given time and a clean pocket. Some of the throws he has made this year were with ridiculous accuracy. Problem is if he gets flushed around at all he tends to throw off his back foot and it gets ugly then. I think he is probably a better QB than we think if he had an OLine. He has come a lot farther than I ever thought he would though as a Vol.

Defense as a whole has been much better with this staff especially Martinez's work with the secondary. TE development is solid. My biggest complaint on offense is still the WR; I just think that group of players should be better. Oline is terrible; no idea if you put that on development or void of talent, likely it's a little of both.

Then please find another team to follow until they meet your criteria or go back to playing the X-Box for the instant success feeling. Getting this program back to where we all want it is not a quick fix. It is still unfathonable to me why some continue to focus exclusively on the negative and refuse to even acknowledge there is any progress at all in the program.

That's kinda my point dude. Coaches can't win all the time simply because they make good playcalls or uses TOs wisely. Its supposed to come down to PLAYERS making plays.
Look at Miles. He makes some crazy calls. They dont always work but when they do its cuz his players are DEVELOPED properly to go out and make the play.
Imagine alll of these underclassmen being 1st and 2nd team all SEC iff they continue to progress. Then Butch doesnt have to outcoach these top 10 teams.

Top recruiting and getting the young talent coached up is how teams totally rebuild into top 10 teams.

I see our coaches doing a awesome job at both of these most important tasks.

If I were the AD I would give the entire coaching staff a nice raise and 1 more year on their contracts right now to try and make certain that the coaches don't even think about going anywhere no matter what offer they might get.

I would also let them know that as more Wins start coming that more $$$ and more contract years will also be coming.

Let there be no doubt at all that Tennessee can be their long term home with consistent pay raises.

Coaching consistency is huge when recruiting the top kids.

Don't get sucked into his ignorance. It's like a political or religion debate. They see what they wanna see and no further from their nose.

Yeah, I say we ve done pretty good with all the youth and injuries we have had. Look at Oregon. They lose one olineman, and the media so called experts give them an excuse not performing well in a couple of games. We lost an olineman in first game. Had defensive lineman and freshmen starting. Qbs have been hurt or hurting, starting rb has been out most of the year, and never had all our wrs and tes playing the same game other than the first game. I can also safely say that we have the only oline with only 9 healthy acls. I think CBJ has done a hell of a job holding this thing together all year. I bet he has felt like he's coached five years in this one season. Probably aged that much as well.

Player development except for the OL looks excellent. I have said it before... but I think their development looks BETTER than their recruiting which is very, very good. That is an excellent sign if they can make it happen on game day and get the OL ironed out.

To a man, the D has drastically improved.... McNeil, JRM, Coleman, Williams,... all of them.

The WR's are much better. Worley and Dobbs are much better.

The Fr have been brought along but what they've done with the returning players to me is the most impressive.

I'm pretty sure coaches know that more wins equals more money.

The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have."
Vince Lombardi

CBJ, throughout his coaching career, has proven he is an effective recruiter; however, no matter how much a coach recruits talent; the development of skill is a different coaching responsibility. For CBJ to have been an offensive specialist as he rose in coaching ranks, it's past time to strategize with what he has to produce wins. Good PR is a wonderful feeling; don't we all feel good when the VOLS prevail! Upcoming wins should be put away in the first column or all the great recruiting claims look good.....on paper.

People are tired of being so close but really a lot of the components of this team are playing ezceptional. That's the coaches doing their job as a whole. We expect the coaches to win all of these games IN GAME like they can magically turn freshmen and sophs into SEC game winners. Jones is gonna cost us some games. Coaches do. But at some point teams that are properly coached go out and win those games against UGA UF and Bama because they are simply better players and teams. Yes they must prepare them and get them ready. Sometimes Bama looks like crap but they stil win cuz they are the better bunch.

Im very excited about CBJ and where he has our program headed. So many Vol fans forget the 2nd half of Doofus's last season. Remember getting blown out because of no halftime adjustments? Remember the feeling of hopelessness with the last coach. Its year 2 for CBJ. It took time to get in this mess, but with CBJ it will take less time to fix it. I say we are competative in the East next year, nationally in 2 years. GO VOLS! Dont lose the faith.
