Going into tonight's game, Alabama was ranked 3rd nationally in scoring defense (13.1 ppg), 2nd in rush defense (63.4 ypg) and 3rd in total defense (262.1 ypg). Counting tonight's game, Alabama has surrendered only 11 touchdowns defensively, only five of which culminated drives 70 yards or more in length. Our two touchdown drives were both 84 yards in length and culminated 10- and 15-play drives, respectively, which lasted 5:00 and 6:46, respectively.

Quite simply, it is very, very difficult to move the ball the length of the field against Alabama and put six points on the board and tonight we had the two longest scoring drives against Alabama all season. The only other drives 'bama has surrendered which were of similar magnitude were a 14-play, 79-yard TD drive by WVU and a 10-play, 81-yard scoring drive by Arkansas. We amassed 181 yards rushing vs. 'bama, almost three times their seasonal average, and 383 yards total offense, second only to the 393 yards which West Virginia compiled vs. Alabama.

Given the depth of the hole out of which we had to climb, how mightily we have struggled all year to run the ball and the fact that Josh Dobbs had not played previously this season, I was very impressed with our offensive performance. In the final analysis, unfortunately, Amari Cooper almost singlehandedly defeated us.

Cooper has done that to a lot of people this year. Through eight games, he has 71 receptions for 1132 yards and nine touchdowns. He has nine or more receptions in five out of eight games and 130 or more yards receiving in six of those games. Fortunately, he will undoubtedly enter the NFL Draft next year, so we will not have to play him again.

Wow. I am sure the bagheads will be in here to muster some sort of pathetic, idiotic scathing retort that will try and diminish the positive progress.

We did well. Dobbs broke a few runs that caught Bama off guard until they adjusted.
Dobbs does a good job getting out of the pass rush lanes as the Oline collapsed. Bama seemed to back off the pass rush a bit with the run threat. Unfortunately, Dobbs still throws inaccurately and overthrows into picks, but hit a few tonight. Wolf dropped at least one as well.

Are you going to cry yourself to sleep because Dobbs played well?

Speaking of cooper, with gurley suspended and bo having a terrible loss, is he the new heisman favorite? Hard to say he isnt the best out there and hes most of the offense on a top 3 team

He certainly should be a finalist. Right now, however, I would probably go with Marcus Mariota of Oregon. To date, he has completed 150-218 (68.8 pct.) for 2283 yds. and 24 touchdowns, with only one, yes one, interception. He is averaging 10.47 yds. per att. and has a passer efficiency rating of 192.2. (Marcus Mariota Stats, News, Videos, Pictures, Bio - Oregon Ducks - ESPN).

From the assorted posts I've read it seems like there are two interpretations of how the game went after the 1st quarter. Either Bama executed a slow down plan or the Vols outplayed Bama for 3 quarters. Having been reminded repeatedly about how thin and out manned our roster is I have a hard time believing we outplayed Bama for any meaningful amount of time. If we did outplay Bama for 3 quarters then I think every Vol Fan has a right to question this staff's personnel and play calling decisions in every game we played this year prior to Bama not to mention questioning what they were doing in the first quarter.

Well Simms, Howard, Cooper, Henry, Yeldon, White, Collins and all their first guys played the whole game. So there's that...

You forgot to mention that the 20 points put up by UT was the most UT has scored on Bama in 11 seasons.

This one hurt the most. As it always does when we lose to Bama, but the tide played like a playoff contender. And we never gave up.

Contextualizing is that something on a porn site ? :)

the Vols played well for there lack of depth, weren't they trying some kind of a zone thing against Cooper in the first quarter ? i believe that is why he got all those yards in such a hurry
he is a great receiver ,no doubt about that ,but it slowed down after they went man up,like they had done most of this year

Soooo? Fahr Butch because we played well this game...under this QB...and struggled previously? Or keep Butch if Saban admits that he told his team not to play so rough? :dunno:

Bama probably relaxed to a degree but when Dobbs starting moving the O and getting points the defense settled in a played better. Which wasnt really hard to do given the first quarter.

The QB decision(s) have some fairly known facts attached and some other holes to be filled in with opinion. I have mine but I doubt it would be popular with some.
