Without a doubt, Michigan pulled the plug too soon on rich rod. Remember, how everybody sang the praises of brady joke who now it seems, won with rich rods players in his first year? Now Arizona is winning big in rich rods third year . Stop drawing conclusions too soon on coaches, good or bad ! Dooley was different because the recruiting was never any good and not in tge same class as Butch's. Dooley's defense was never this good either.

Rich Rod had other issues at Michigan that weighed in on the decision to let him go.

Add this to what I said In the Tired of Comparing Butch and Dooley thread....and this is perfect example.....

Losses to Ole Miss and Alabama would start the lunatic fringe a rumbling.

Great point!
Lunatic fringe
I know you're out there
You're in hiding
And you hold your meetings

I can hear you coming
We know what you're after
We're wise to you this time
We won't let you kill the laughter

Lunatic fringe
In the twilight's last gleaming
This is open season
But you won't get too far

'Cause you gotta blame someone
For your own confusion
But I'm on guard this time
Against your final solution

We can hear you coming
No you're not going to win this time
We can hear the footsteps
Out along the walkway

Lunatic fringe
We all know you're out there
Can you feel the resistance?
Can you feel the thunder?

Butch just needs a year and the lunatic fringe will become an endangered species.

Dan Mullen is in his 6th year at Miss St. You think they are happy they didn't do what the fans wanted and fired Mullen after 3, 4, or 5, years. :eek:k:

Not as long as they're competitive in those games. They're not expected to have much of a chance vs those 2 because they're both top 5-10 teams. Florida was horrible. IMHO, it was the same reason why no one was too upset after the Okla and Georgia losses. We were competitive and played hard vs 2 superior teams. Those losses were encouraging. The Florida loss was an unnecessary disgrace.

We are going to lose both games. Has there been anything on the field that says we win either game? Thinking we can is stupid and will only cause you To be pissed when we lose.

Mullen won 9 in year 2.

oh no facts.. cbj will get 3 years regardless of this year..but if he loses to k3nt or vandy. yr 3 will be hot by game six n nothing to show for 3 yrs but recruiting..

with the off they r running we will never win a championship in the sec until you get a freak at qb..n that just doesnt happen often..

I don't recall Miss State fans calling for Mullen to be fired in any of those years. Why would they? His stretch of just getting to a bowl year after year is the most successful in their program's history. Being over .500 every year is plenty successful for a program that won one conference title over 70 years ago and probably won't ever do it again.

Of course, it's sad that we can't even seem to manage the level of success Mullen had in his early years, despite higher budgets, better facilities, better recruits, etc.
