Tennessee junior wide receiver and Central High School alum Cody Blanc will not play this season after tearing his Achilles’ tendon during the first session of training camp, UT coach Butch Jones announced Tuesday.

“He’s out for the year,” Jones said after the Vols finished their fifth practice at Haslam Field. “We got the results back. It’s Achilles’ tendon, and it’s torn, so he will miss this year.”

Blanc’s injury occurred during a closed portion of UT’s practice last Friday. He left the field on crutches, and has since watched practices from the sideline in a cast.

The 6-foot-3, 207-pound Blanc appeared in 21 games the past two seasons. He played in 10 games last season and made his first career start against South Carolina. He made his first and only career catch, a 43-yard reception, against Alabama. He also made three tackles on special teams last season.

Get Well and come back strong!

Hate it for the young man. It will be a long season for him not being able to play.

Not a lot one can say here except for how much it sucks for this young man!

Hopefully he doesn't have bad luck setbacks during his rehab period.

Stay strong Cody...you have a nation of people wishing you a speedy recovery!

That is awful for that young man. Hopefully he can recover from that injury.

That SUCK! Hate it for the young man. I will say however (and I'll probably catch a little hate for this but) at least it was at a position we have depth, and he's not even one of the elite at this position. Lets just hope to avoid any injuries on the o or d lines. And hope Blanc is back next year stronger than ever

Hate to hear that. Hope he recovers well and fast. We will need him next year.

There goes his speed. Achilles tears are never the same.

Hard to say. Is a really tough injury to recover from, but it can be done. Michael Crabtree, WR for the 49'ers, tore his a year ago in May and was back in time for Sherman to call him out in the playoffs.

Horrible for him. Though I heard on the radio he could be asked to transfer or just graduate. He will most likely never see the field here again. Next year we have North, VP, Malone, Howard, P Williams, Smith and Wharton if not more players. Wr rotation will be very hard to crack
