UT's Jones, Memphis' Fuente, or Vandy's Mason?
Had a postponement this morning so several of us had time to kill. Here was the argument:
Me- Butch has essentially 4 wins in hand (Utah state, Ark State, Chat and Kentucky) Vandy is transitioning to 3-4 and replacing a ton on offense so that should be 5. All Butch needs to do is win one other game and bowls will be clamoring to take the ready-to-party vol fan base.
Tiger guy- Claims that Tigers essentially sacrificed last year for this season. Believes that their QB play will be legit and their defense will be top 25 caliber. Points out that the Tigers lost several close ones last year and that Louisville leaving will be enough to get to 6 wins.
Vandy guy- thinks that despite losing QB, they have two very solid replacements and that their lines on both sides of the ball will be good enough to win 6 (made it a point to say "should have no problem with UT in the trenches" lol). WR obviously a problem but running game would be improved.
Curious as to what you guys think. Which coach breaks through first, and why?

Never argue football with Memphis or Vandy fans. You only get dumber and your blood pressure goes up.

If Jones makes a bowl by 2020 he will win this race.

Lol it's not as ridiculous as it seems. It's not who the best team is but who cobbles together 6 wins. You have to consider Memphis' schedule. They have games against Austin Peay, MTSU, Temple, Tulsa, Tulane, Uconn, SFU... Not exactly murderers row.
Who gets there first between Butch and Mason nay very well come down to the Vandy game

Memphis High and UT tie this season. Both go. I don't see Vandy getting 6 wins even with the easiest schedule.

So, did Vandy guy mention the fact that they return nobody in the secondary and that Mason's Defenses have pretty much ALWAYS struggled with the pass? Last year, after having like 4 years to build his D, Stanford was 91st in the FBS in pass D. When he was a DB coach in 2010, they were 16th in the FBS. So Stanford's passing D went from top 25 (without Mason as DC) in passing D to bottom 30 (with him).

He plays an air raid team on the road (UK) and Wide Receiver U this season. Mark it down, both are losses for Vandy.

That's without even mentioning they lose basically ALL of their offense and their kicker...and he's in his first year of being a HC...and transitioning to a 3-4 with a LB coach as DC (does that sound familiar?)...this is gonna be a sh*t year for Vandy.

Vanderbilt:

Temple - Win
Ole Miss - ?
Massachusetts - Win
South Carolina - Loss
at Kentucky - ?
at Georgia - Loss
Charleston Southern - Win
at Missouri - Loss
Old Dominion - Win
Florida - Loss
at Miss. State - ?
Tennessee - ?

So Vanderbilt has 4 guaranteed wins. They only have to win 2 of 4 toss up games. Vanderbilt has 4 guaranteed wins. They could easily make a bowl.

Because he gets it

Good points and I was actually reading about this the other day. Mason's 3-4 D is specifically built to handle the spread offenses they use heavily in the Pac-12. It consistently struggles with a traditional pro-style attack (why they lost to USC last year, but pounded Oregon). If we stick to our WRU roots and hammer the ball between the tackles, we should handle them easily.

The UT game likely decides whether they go or not.
