Reasons to retain coaches, by way of title changes, and raises. Especially State schools that must report state salaries... Some states have the HC as the Highest paid State Employee.

It varies with the style and relationships of different head coaches. Sometimes it means a bigger paycheck. Sometimes the title is in lieu of a bigger paycheck.

but we are doing as good as the money will allow...

so just be happy with the hierarchy and accept it

1. Associate Head Coach
2. Assistant Head Coach

In the absense of the head coach, the associate head coach makes decisions should a decision making situation arise, and if the head coach becomes ill, takes his place, but not his salary.

The assistant head coach has to basically make sure the head coaches instructions are being followed. If they don't he tells the head coach. He also gets to make sure misbehaving players run stadium steps.

Honestly, I don't know what they do. I am just guessing.
