Mike Hamilton, UT's athletics director, said on Tuesday an agreement in principle has been reached for Neyland Stadium to serve as a host site for the new All American Football League, which will play its games in the spring at campus sites around the country.

So I guess this is probably no big deal. But there is a part of me that thinks another league, a team that is not the Vols, just ought not be playing on that field. Shields Watkins is fairly hallowed ground after all.
This bug anyone else?

I need something other that cfl and arena for the off season. BRING IT ON!
Plus these will be players that we know. Maybe past UT players playing back at home.

A league which restricts itself to players who have earned a degree. I don't get it.

Don't really care, honestly.

I'm not quite sure why anyone should be bothered by this. It's money to the university during the off-season. And, I KNOW that supporters of Women's sports and any men's sport other than hoops or football, or those hoping for a payoff and replacement of Fulmer, can't argue with that!

Just like the article says, the stadium has been rented out for concert use, so what's the difference?

As for the success of a spring, college-degrees only league. . . .ummmm. . . .I'm pretty sure if wrestlers and scantily-clad trashy chicks can't keep an "alternative" football league going for more than a couple of years, this will fly about as far as a lead-encased load of bricks.

...and once a kid gets his degree and doesn't make it in the NFL, isn't it incumbent on us to help crush his pipe dream of playing professional sports so he'll go get a real job? A substandard football league only puts off the inevitable.
