Offense ability to handle blitz and blocking now that

How bad does downs being gone for a while hurt us with blocking? you know every defense is going to blitz us from the side with the new tight end on it. are we going to throw in a second string linemen for blocking and just put the new tight end in for specific plays or what? this does have me worried somewhat.

Not much. Why do you think we were going to run 2 TE all the time?

If we need an extra blocker on the other side it will most likely be Bart.

I don't think we run it much. When we do Ayres is there for that. I feel comfortable enough with our offense that we have enough options to be fine.

I don't think losing a TE is as big of a deal for pass protection as losing a RB would be. We were a great pass blocking team last year, we have everyone returning, and we should be great this season.

If the defense is blitzing, then it's probably a pass play where we only have one TE in anyway. Teams don't really blitz against 2 TE sets.

As long as we have Rivera, we r ok.. He can block, but also poses a big pass threat catching the ball.. We have plenty of guys that can run block as well as Downs.

For as much as blitzing is talked about, teams don't really do it that much. 15-20% of plays, typically in third and long or other obvious pass situations.

Since UT has three stud WRs, I figure they'll all be in for that situation. I guess the coaches could opt for a second TE, but I think they'd rather have an RB, especially since ours are good pass catchers.

I thought Tennessee ran a lot of Ace formation? Which requires two TEs to run.

Dont know about the pass blocking but a 6-6 365 lb Dl on 3rd and 2 ? I know, he can't play D & O. True, but converting 3rd and short means the D rests some more. The entire D.

Blitzes are more determined by down and distance and ability to cover the receivers. An offense will line up in a two tight, to show a run, then throw. If the Defense is getting pushed around, and can't cover the wr's, they are blitzing----no choice. Chavis used to allow a team to cross the 40, then bring the house to try and shut them down---short of FG range. Sometimes---it worked. If a QB is hot and you can't pressure with your front, or cover the WR's you have no choice but to blitz. Blitzing is, in essence; a sign of weakness.
