Yesterday was a big day for us...

and you didn't even know it.

You see, I got caught up in the hype going into the 2008 season, so right around mid-August I purchased a 65 inch Toshiba DLP HDTV to watch every football weekend in stunning HD clarity.

I gathered all of my friends at my house for what I assumed would be a slaughtering of UCLA. We drank, we marveled at the TV, we drank. Alas, our Vols came up short, and so began the downfall of Fulmer and the slump that would last through last year.

I never saw a good Vols game on that TV. I watched T Cody block a kick with his armpit. I watched UT pick up a "moral victory" at Florida. I watched 13 players stop LSU at the goal line. I watched Justin Hunter come down on his knee carrying the weight of 7 years of Florida lashings. I saw it all in stunning HD clarity on my 65 inch monstrosity.

I also beat the hell out of the wall around the TV with shoes, plastic cups, beer cans, pillows, cushions, footballs, more shoes, a cast, pens, books, batteries, controllers, and paper plates.

Fast forward to yesterday. I sold the television to a friend who likes Michigan football, and I picked up a new Samsung 51 inch plasma. I have mounted it above my fireplace on a swivel mount. I have readied the room for much football viewing and beer consumption.

This TV is going to change everything. Maybe it's my egocentrism allowing me to believe that MY television was the portal through which all negative things happened to the Vols, but I truly believe that this new television will change it all for us.

I will update everyone on the status of the television following the NCSU game at the end of the month. Until then, I'm going to treat the new TV with much respect and make sure that it knows the Vols are the team that must triumph.

You know, I think that's about the time I bought my plasma, holy crap! I have wasted a lot of time changing game day traditions and all I needed to do was get a new TV? Darn

No way I could have gone from a 65" TV to a 51" TV.
