Moore was a true RB. Pig will be used many ways and was going to get a shot at RB. Cant compare those 2.

Living near Orlando, I saw Pig play live three or four times, plus a lot on film/TV highlights. The kid is legit. The high school football talent is pretty good down here (behind enemy lines) and he made some decent defenses look silly. He is cat-quick and has great straight-up speed. Based on watching him work with the ball in space, he seems to have football smarts and has great field vision.

I have seen Pig throw for a TD, return a punt for a TD, and catch a pass for a TD – all in the same 10 minutes of game action. His junior season, I saw him catch for more than 200 yards in one game against a team that made the big-school playoffs in Florida.

He's a great athlete, and hopefully, he'll perform at the same level for the Big Orange as he did at a pretty good high school level.

Is Pig already practicing? If I am reading this right, it sure looks like it.

The Vols have auditioned several players at Wildcat this weekend.

Tailback Marlin Lane has been on the veteran side of practice, while linebacker Justin King and receiver Alton "Pig" Howard have worked in the freshman group.

Is it a poor reflection of our RB situation that he's getting looks there?

No. Two things are in play.

1. A determination to have a bona fide running game so everybody is getting serious looks.

2. Truth is, we have some speedy people and it's be a mortal sin to not let them on the field if they can contribute. DY, Pig, and Smith. The first two may be in the Rainy-Demps category. Smith is a slam, bam runner.

If either Neal or Lane falters, I think CDD doesn't want to be in another Tauren Poole situation so will use any RB who could be a spark plug in a given game. So he's evaluating to see what we got. Like a good boy scout he's being prepared.

Don't be shocked if he doesn't step on the field until the Florida game. We won't need him for the first 2 games. He could be the difference on Sept 15.

Would rather have him 100% than play in 2 meaningless games at 80%

Nc st is not a meaningless game. I hate to bring this up but this is how everyone approached the two ucla games. We had more talent and should have won both games but didnt. If we dont beat nc st we will be in for a long season and another coaching search
