| Someone who doesnt commit selfish actions off the field to hurt the team and earns the respect of his fellow teammates on the field and demands it.. ie AL Wilson

| Since someone asked me what I feel leadership I must share
1. Leading by example on or off the field whether a starter or backup ( if you are the backup you push the starter to be all he can be or he will lose his job). Like Rick Clauson did in 05.
2. Having a presence that keeps everyone in line like Peyton did.
3. Being an over achiever.
4. Helping other people in study groups ( not doing the work)
5. Basically being repsonsible and doing whatever you can to help UT improve.
6. Also having a positive attitude during the ups and downs of the season. |

| Whoever can get the team to achieve above and beyond by any means necessary. I think al wilson may have roughed some guys up if the stories are true. Some are vocal, and can talk the players up like I guess, tim teblow...yuck. |

| Take you pick:
Leadership is based on inspiration, not domination; on cooperation, not intimidation.
---William Arthur Wood---
Leadership is communicating to people their worth and potential so clearly that they come to see it in themselves.
---Stephen Covey---
Men make history, and not the other way around. In periods where there is no leadership, society stands still. Progress occurs when courageous, skillful leaders seize the opportunity to change things for the better.
---Harry S Truman (1884 - 1972)---
I start with the premise that the function of leadership is to produce more leaders, not more followers.
--- Ralph Nader---
Leadership is practiced not so much in words as in attitude and in actions.

Over came bone cancer, having his spleen removed, was thrown into middle linebacker position as a freshman bc of injuries to Reviez/ Savion Frasier.etc. Overall a very smart/ tough player that all his team mates look up to. Interviews with Dallas Thomas/ P wag even say that this is Lathers team. He has constantly stuided the new scheme film and helps other players learn it. He has hosted multiple cook outs this summer at his place for the entire team and I think just planned a wkd rafting trip for some of the team. that = LEADER! Look up his talk with a class in west Knox recently.

| Leadership is holding others accountable for their positions and always being able to provide guidance. You shouldn't show up your teammates or scold them after they know they ****ed up, but should hold them accountable. You don't have to be the best player to be a leader, but you do need to be knowledgeable about all facets of the game and someone the players respect. |

But noone does their job on a regular basis to be able to step up and provide that type of leadership. Bray may throw for 4000 yards but when he quits against uk and behaves like a brat in key situations how can he correct someone or lead by example? When receivers drop passes all the time how can they ask somebody to step up. When the oline gets driven back 5 yards into the backfield who in that unit can have a credible talk with any other teammate? We need people who produce results along with knowledge. Not just loud mouth Alpha males who talk a lot of crap but can't do anything. We need studs who can produce on the field and not just intelligently express how something should be done but can't do it themselves. |

| Leaders are born, not made. If they could be made, then everyone would have the potential to be one, and that's just not true. To have a real leader you need to be born with it and have the right set of circumstances come up to prove it.
It's the whole, I can't make you fast, but I can make you faster argument. I can't make you a leader, but I can make you a better one. But you have to have it to start with. |

In one situation, the quiet skinny person always made fun of, proves to be a leader when others fail to lead. In another situation, a presumed "leader" fails just when everyone looks to him to lead.
Two ships, both sinking. In one the captain abandons the ship like a coward. The coast guard even calls him such and orders him back to the ship. But still he flees. In another, 200+ passengers remain aboard and all lifeboats have been filled and departed. The band's guitarist enters the empty control room, uses the PA system to calm passengers, figures out how to work the radio and calls for help, stays and basically becomes the sinking ship's captain, overseeing the salvation of 200+ stranded passengers. We don't know what we are until until circumstances force it upon us.
"Be not afraid of greatness; some are born great, some achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them." William Shakespeare
