| Unsung Heroes We always talk about the players but do we ever give any credit to the unsung heroes that make every Saturday beautiful in Neyland?
Yes, I'm referring to the Grounds crew and the students in the Turfgrass program at UT. Darren Seybold and his guys make it possible for us to have beautifully green fields for whence to run up and down and batter our opponents on.
Without these guys, Shields-Watkins would be nothing but a few brown patches of common bermuda in a sea of crabgrass, barnyard grass, and the occasional dandelion
We may not be a contender for NC this year, but there are other things to be proud of. Thick green hybrid bermuda is one
I know how hard it is to maintain a lush green carpet of pure green goodness. Its difficult and often back breaking work. So I appreciate the effort these guys put forth to give our guys the best playing surface possible, only to have it chewed every Saturday afternoon. Then to have it back in pristine condition by the next game
So, on this 4th, while I have a beer and watch my lawn die a slow death from the heat and drought, I pay my respects to the unsung guys of green
Respect!!!!
Go Vols!!!

| Any word on how the new grass is taking? Last I heard, it was struggling to root. |

| I also give a salute for the turf crew! I tend a lawn or two around these parts, and it is hard work, especially this time of the year. I don't know how anybody keeps their lawn completely "grass-proof," but I'd imagine it takes a little more money and time then I have. Regardless, all thanks to the grounds crew at Neyland. I heard we re-turfed this year, so I expect to see an even better field than I've previously imagined! You go, guys!

Hey, I'm not one to complain about the team, but when you have the money to fix the turf, do it. At least it sounds like they're finally doing it. Hopefully it will be up and running, so to speak, by early September.
