| watched a thing on tv last night about Andy and everyone on there had nothing but great things to say about. Ron Howard has said that Andy was as much of a dad to him as his own. Rip Sheriif Taylor.

| | Old Timer, Quality Poster | Don Knotts once said of Andy Griffith that anyone who could count Andy as a friend would never have the need to call another friend...great words.

They had just got out of the Opry, which apparently is only a block or two away, or so. They told me that they were walking along the sidewalk back to the hotel when a limo pulled up and the window rolled down. A feller stuck his head out and asked if they'd like a ride to wherever they were bound. And that feller was George Lindsey, Goober himself! So my grandparents got in, and sure enough, Goober gave them a limo ride for a block or two back to the hotel!

| He was nice guy. I knew him in real life. Only negative about him was he was a huge Bama fan. Just the same in real life as he was on TV. Quote:

I don't guess we can hold that against them though. haha!

| | VN GURU | Love the TAGS but I don't think this comedy sketch holds up that well.
Back in the early 60's when he wrote, when not everyone had TV sets, and not everyone had seen a football game, it made sense. In this day and age no. |

(1) Not talking about his career;
(2) Not asking for an autograph; and
(3) Not getting up in his grill.
I had one nice conversation w/him and his (younger) wife when he got off his boat one day (next to my boat) for about 10 minutes. I helped them dock their boat, and then spoke awhile. We talked about dogs and kids and fishing. They were both very pleasant, and Mr. Griffith was definitely still with it mentally, but physically struggled a bit.
The next time I saw him was in our local food lion, and he was alone on his rascal cruising around. I just exchanged pleasantries and was on my way.
Interestingly, his name came up several years ago in my Rotary Club when we were discussing whom to honor in our annual fishing tourney. One member stood up and proceeded to tell a story about an occassion when he made a couple little kids cry in his tackle shop in front of their mom. Another piped in with a similar, negative story. Many other of my neighbors have said the same thing, but I never saw it personally.
I think the bottom line was, yes, he was a grumpy old fart. I think he liked his privacy (our island has a population of 5,000), and his "farm" was kept off limits to most.
I know if I had 10 billion people bugging me everytime I went in public, I'd probably hate everyone and be a total jerk. People talk about how great the limeline is, but in reality, it has major drawbacks.
It was weird that he died at 7 AM and was buried at 10:30 AM the same day. I believe this was obviously expected.
I wish his family the best. His wife is extremely pleasant. | I think that is what happens unfortunately. Your nice to 10 people no one remembers. Your rude to 1 and they never forget it. That and the fact everyone expects him to be AG from TAGS, from what I read he was more similar to the Matlock character he played in real life. |

Ha, Ha. Hearing this brings back memories to when my dad brought this record home and played it for me. The "B" side was "Romeo and Juliet". Also very funny. |
