About this Page -- This is a discussion on Sam Pittman OLine Coach -- Opinions Please Page 4. within the forum Tennessee Vols Football. he is the next jimmy ray stephens ...
Pittman isn't an upgrade over Hiestand - probably a wash - but the running game should be improved with the guys getting older and the RBs getting an actual coach. Pittman fielded very underwhelming running attacks at UNC playing against much worse defenses in the ACC so its hard for me to be excited about replacing Hiestand with him.
agreed, except im glad hiestand is gone but not sure about pittman

Exactly.
And it will be hard to pinpoint only what Pittman can do due to the natural improvement that would happen with older line, RB coach and hopefully a better rushing scheme.
Nothing is known at this point except that he's a much better recruiter so our OL should get much better over time with better recruits that have learned more in high school.
This season will tell us if he's a good coach for our OL players and can get them rolling or not.
They have the size for the SEC but learning everything they need to know for run blocking takes alot more time to learn and get consistent at.
We upgraded on recruiting but only time will tell if he's a good OL coach or not.
I think this will be a combination of things. There were times where the line just flat got whipped, others where it seemed like the RBs didn't hit the hole. If the hole was where the play was designed they were fine. But they couldn't see a cutback lane to save their lives. This is where Jay Graham comes into play. His time with the RBs in the film room will be priceless. Without the hiring of Graham I would fully expect our running game to look the same as it did. Just wondering why it took 3 years to get a RB coach in here.
In my opinion, the impact of Coach McKeefry and the S&C program will have every bit as much impact on how well our linemen perform this year as Coach Pittman's tutelidge.
Exactly what I was going to bring up.
Any oline worth a damn is filled with upperclassmen.
