SC, MS, and AL produce more than double the blue chip prospects on avg while their black populations are only between 7% and 25% greater.
CA, OH, PA, and other states with a low percentage and wide distribution of black residents have more of their white/other race kids become great football players. Demographics are a part of it but so is the quality of youth football. You can probably say that the average size of HS classes is a factor. Areas with higher population have greater competition and opportunities to play.
There are other states that perform just as poorly or worse compared to their demographics. NC, MI, MD, IL, and NY all have large black populations and produce relatively few good football prospects. | Take out the top 5 or 6 states, "the outliers" and you will see that we are actually pretty competitive. And if it makes you feel better throw out the bottom 5 or 6. Same results. |

The top 6 in black population in order are: NY, FL, GA, TX, CA, and IL. By % it is: MS, LA, SC, GA, MD, and AL.
TN is 11th notably ahead of CA, FL, and TX. |

| Wow - what a racist thread.
It's the development folks. Black or white or purple - whatever - it doesn't matter. Compare states with the most organized football leagues for younger kids. Then compare states that have organized football at most of their middle schools. Look at the states that start S&C younger, that have PE programs in their schools, etc. Then look at the BCS schools that have coaching staffs that actually stay close with their state's HS coaches. TN HS's do not place nearly as high a priority on player development in football as the states with lesser populations that are "talent rich." You have to train them up young or they find other things to do with their time. TN has a more balanced number of good football, good baseball, good basketball and good soccer players than many other SEC states. |

However there are "general" differences between blacks and other races. IIRC, black folks have elongated tendons and tend to carry more fat in their muscles. There's nothing "racist" about recognizing differences without making wholesale inferences... or establishing "value" based on generalities. |

| Our coach used to bring Melrose in to scrimmage, or we would go there, for a reason. And we all knew that reason when we played. Collectively, their team was bigger, stronger, faster and more athletic. They were also all black.
Let's not act like fools about the makeup of teams. |
