I don't think we have to create negative big plays necessarily, but we do have to get pressure, create some confusion, make the offense think / which in turn slows them down and makes them much less effective.

The reason teams don't blitz like they used to is that most teams are running some form of hurry up offense and concentrating on short quick passes. Offenses are designed to get the ball out quicker and quicker making blitzing counter productive. Alot of defenses are doing good to get back to the line before the next play is ran let alone get a blitz call in.

We actually did know more than the coaches because many of us knew that if you have a left handed center snapping the ball right handed it would be a FAIL! It was. Several losses later they made the change. If they are going to teach Bray to receive the direct snap from a left handed Stone instead of the normal way, they are putting it on Bray to make the change.

This is stupid. Hope Hubbs is wrong.

Common sense left behind in Vols
The last sentence of that article says it all. Kevin Mawae is spot on. Makes you wonder if Dooley or Chaney really know what they are doing period. We're getting ready to find out this year.

LOL, not pertinent to this thread, but I got to listen to CT and Co on Monday afternoon on 104.5. I find them to be....well.....noise? The whole show sounded like a Yahoo Sports wannabe and I find Yahoo Sports ridiculously stupid. Makes our talk shows look like they should be nationally syndicated.

Not sure we ever heard which coach made this decision. Probably have to throw Hiestand and Hinshaw into the mix as well as last year's OL and QB coaches, respectively. The QBs may have had a say in it, too. Possibly a collaborative effort. Either way, let's just be glad that he's back at center, hopefully with no bad snaps during the season.

Unless your superstar stud all-world QB can't handle the "different angle" on the ball. Guess we are getting ready to find out.

Nope, with you on that one but I do think that CDD wouldn't have just switched JS from left handed to right handed cause he wanted too. I believe that there was something else to it.

The staff and namely Coach Pittman is trying to get the best 5 linemen on the field. The more comfortable a person is in their respective position, whether mentally or physically, the better they are going to perform under stress/fatigue. Hence, trying stone left handed again. Stone's problems came when he was under pressure (florida) and possible fatigue from trying something awkward. Having to think on the field instead of react is the difference in executing a play correctly vs. disaster.

Kinda like.. when you have always pulled with your right then switched to the left hand....just doesn't feel right!

I'm all for blitzing but Wilcox didn't have the necessary talent/depth to be wearing out the players they had. You can blitz when you have enough depth/talent, otherwise you're going to have to put in weaker guys which then makes it harder to stop the O.
