One of the most underrated wins, IMO, is '79 Notre Dame in Knoxville. They were two years removed from a Nat'l Title and we had just lost to Rutgers the week before. I believe that's the first time we tore the goal-posts down, IIRC.

I would have to go with either Bama 82 or Miami 86.

Though FSU in Tempe was, of course, a national title, so has a special place.

But Bama 82, when we finally sealed the deal with Terry's pick in the endzone, man that was sweet.

Miami 86 was absolutley nuts. When Jeff Powell hit that hole for 60-some yard TD to put us up 28-7, you knew it was over.

The thing I remember most about that game is Miami flying down the field on the opening drive and Vinny Testaverde hitting Michael Irvin for a TD. I thought we were going to lose 50-0.

Man, I just re-watched the youtube vid of the 82 Bama game. I had forgotten how Chuck Coleman simply took over the game during Tennessee's last TD drive in the 4th quarter.

I would have to start with '82 Bama, because UT was a floundering program in the late 70's/ early 80's. That sort of got it started for the run that lasted over 20 years with just a couple of down years.

The '86 Sugar Bowl was a fantastic win. The '86 season that followed failed to live up to expectations but that's ok. Still ended with a bowl win over Minn.

The '98 UF game was the loudest I can ever recall that stadium. UT wasn't that great on offense, but did just enough to win. The O became a real threat later in the year.

The '99 Fiesta Bowl should be #1. It would be except that FSU was playing their back-up qb. I know he had 1 game under his belt (UF). Regardless, you take a NC game win however you get it.

For me it was the 98 Florida game because of the buildup. Those of us who were into UT football in the 1990's witnessed a team that could and did beat everyone except Florida. Not matter how hard they tried they just couldn't do it. I remember 95 being up 30-7 and still lost. I remember Spurrier with the UT and Citrus comments and Fred Taylor saying "they know they can't beat us." Every year it was " Can we get into the NC even with the loss at FL and can't we play FL later so we can beat them?" It was just so sweet to be at home that night and watch Al Wilson who -you could tell in his eyes wasn't going to let them lose. They way it was won was awesome, but the combined with that they finally did it and went on to win it all made it that much sweeter. Ah the memories- maybe again one day!
