He said we have all of the pieces to be the best offense in the league. We have one of the best QB's in the league, the best receiver duo in the nation + patterson and he said he believes the line will be much better this year which will lead to a improved running game.

Nothing he said sounds remotely unbelievable or ground breaking. I say the OP has nothing to gain for such a lengthy write up. I appreciate the OP.

If all the pieces of the puzzle come together we could be good on offense but until Bray shows me he can lead his team to victory over a quality opponent the jury is still out.
If our passing game is as good as expected, TN will have a running game.

The passing game will spread the defense and open up the run game. That is what Spurrier did at Florida.

We had it so good while he was here that the coaches following him inherited the thinnest defense I've ever seen at this level. We're STILL digging out of that hole.

I'm glad coach Chavis is doing well. Maybe it took a swift kick in the pants (or a school in a loaded state) to get him back on track. How quickly we forget the defenses that came out and got embarassed by Bammer and FL...and Cal.

CJC is just as guilty as CPF for becoming complacent.

LOL.

Fulmer never interferred with Chavis's defense.

Chief could pull out all kinds of stats to show you how his mustang worked far more than it failed. All schemes fail at some time or other.

PS: Sorry, just thought reference to CPF tying Chief's hands was funny..

If I remember correctly, the year after Chavis left wasn't there a few drafted to the NFL?

Could we merge this with the Fulmer extravaganza and rename the thread....there is WAY to much estrogen in this thread for it now to be with the CPF love in.

Robert Ayers in 2009
Eric Berry and Dan Williams in 2010
and NONE in 2011 and 2012

This is pitiful compared to just a few years prior.

This sentiment is shared by our offensive coaches.

Agree on the whole but early last year convinced me that you DO NOT have to run the ball to win. Either you do or you score lots and lots of points. Cincy was a decent football team. UT's passing game put them under extreme pressure. They probably felt that any possession that they did not score could put them out of the game.

It is sort of like the Spurs. For years, they won with defense and controlled offense. This year they have given up some defensive strength and become a scoring team.

The bottom line is to score more points than your opponent... there are many ways to do it. If you have a high powered passing O then you use the Spurrier model of the 90's. Score points as fast as you can to push running teams out of their game plan. You make them predictable and put pressure on them to think they have to play "perfect" to stay up.
