| Fulmer was a stubborn man, like many coaches. He medled with Sanders play calling.
In fact, I know the average fan isn't privvy to the headset dialogue, but let's just say that very few OCs would have tolerated the types of things Fulmer did with Sanders during the game. Not to mention his other tactics. One of the biggest reasons for the decline is Fulmer let the inmates run the asylum. He forced JRS to go and sweet talk Toeina after he stormed out of practive. He should have suspended him. Sanders was on a tight lease and the offense new it.
Chavis ran his side of the ball w/out Fulmer medling and discipline wasn't a problem. But the offense was a mess. Hiring Taylor would have done nothing if Fulmer himself didn't change. Fulmer had every opportunity. He was the problem. And it's sad because it didn't have to be that way. Fulmer had a lot of great qualities as a head coach. |

| Trooper Taylor is a hype clown. Oklahoma State, Tennessee and Auburn had chances to promote him and didn't. People he worked for had insight into him the rest of us don't. |

| Putting Randy Sanders in charge of the offense was the beginning of the end. Maybe for the reasons that the other poster suggests but his offense was just laughable at times. Laughable for the wrong reasons if you were a UT fan. |

| not sure if youre saying promoting trooper wouldve been a good thing or not. I seem to remember him doing a good job with receivers and rb's the year before.I dont think he would've been any worse than clawson and he's a good recruiter...but either way I don't believe this one coordinator position hire doomed fulmer. we slowly declined over a period of time and our biggest rivals all got stronger. |

| I always felt that he didn't let Sanders have full control calling the plays. Even before he "resigned" halfway through the season I felt that Fulmer was holding him back and then allowed fans/media beat him for it. I just remember Taylor being PO for not being promoted and that's why he left. Posted via VolNation Mobile |
