Wasn't saying anything about sos. Was making a point about quality wins.

It's a fact that Auburn played more ranked teams in 2004 than OU and USC, if you count every game and not just the non-conference games. Regardless of who you choose to play in the title game, I don't see how 2004 does anything but hurt Greve's argument against a playoff.

And, a 2003 game should have no bearing on who plays in the title game in 2004.

Is that a problem with a two team playoff also?

It shouldn't but human voters are going to look back at that and say "eh, they've already gotten throttled"

I'm not saying Auburn should have gotten in over Oklahoma, but that's a weak argument. The good teams you beat should count for a hell of a lot more than the bad teams you beat.

I would love a 4 team playoff. What I'm afraid of would be the 4 team playoff growing to 8 teams. Then 16.

And that's the issue. It starts out as, "Okay, sure, a four team playoff, that should be fine." But several years go by, teams 5 and 6 complain enough, controversy emerges in one form or fashion, and we decide that, alright, let's do an EIGHT team playoff. Then 9 and 10 are complaining, and on and on it goes.

I love the college football regular season. I love the urgency, and I love the bowl games. I'd hate to see that cheapened. A 4-team playoff would strike a balance, but I worry it won't stay there.

Can someone post the prospective BCS matchups from the last 5 years or so assuming they implemented a +1? I'm having trouble finding reliable information and people here have a lot more knowledge than I do about this stuff.

I know we don't have the rules yet, but here's how I see the last two years playing out.

2011

1/4 - LSU/Stanford
2/3 - Bama/OK state

2010

1/4 - Auburn/Stanford
2/3 - Oregon/TCU

Those would have been some sweet playoffs.

How about you let Auburn and Oklahoma decide who's better on the field? Is there really any harm in that?

First of all, you'll have to perform in the regular season in order to qualify for a playoff.

Secondly, we have a basketball tourney. Somehow, when duke plays carolina, the games mean something to the fans. I dont know why, but they do (sarcasm)

I dont think you will have a sport that has people attend spring games in the thousands all of a sudden not caring about the regular season.

Just insane
Here we have another NFL fan who doesn't understand the beauty of college football.

It won't. The whiners will always whine, and it will eventually be expanded.
