Edit: nevermind, I get it. Fact is they let that game go after a huge lead.
They did. But also, Cam Newton.

As for the Carolina game, you could see it coming a mile away. Last of three straight big games, including a big win over Florida (huge game at the time), South Carolina coming off a bye with Gameday in town and a matchup advantage (Lattimore vs a rebuilding Bama run D)

Include Penn State and it's 3-1.

I get all that, but the fact is tvols is claiming we should go 10-2 because only one team is vastly superior, yet bama lost to 2 teams with less talent and one that was comparable. Alabama was more talented at every position except qb against auburn, dl is debatable.

Well, when you combine it with being in a historically difficult conference, it closes that gap.

But I agree with most of what you say.

Yeah, but including Penn State is like including Mississippi State. Except Mississippi State was half-decent.

Yeah, but when you win national championships, you gain goodwill. When you've never had an upset victory, you'd best minimize your upset losses.

Exactly. I'm not saying Dooley should be fired at 9-3. I am saying it's not really that big an achievement.

Looking at that schedule, what kind of record do you think the Tennessee team would have? I see 3 games which are almost sure losses, and 3 others which seem to be questionable at best. With opponents having by weeks like Alabama's opponents had that year, I don't see much better than 7-5.

Fair enough, but seeing regression from year one to year two was unbelievably concerning.

No, the definition of "true fan" changes a lot. I'm just making sure I know the criteria for now

The 2010 Alabama schedule? Auburn, Arkansas, and LSU are sure losses. Carolina is a close call. We played them pretty well with our crappy 2010 team, but they had skills and a bye. Mississippi State should be a win but wouldn't be easy. Florida and Penn State are easy wins for any competent team.

I'd say expected record of 8-4 with 9-3 more likely than 7-5. Assuming we are competent.

Yeah. I really like our talent level, but I'm keeping my expectations in check until we beat somebody.

A bad coach that has never won anything coaching Tennessee is what's different.

It's hilarious to watch people twist and turn and try to reason out why Tennessee hasn't been a good team for awhile.

Fulmer got lazy, Lane left too soon and Dooley's not very good. He was a rush hire by an incompetent AD. He could very well ride Bray's arm to a good season. I'll be cheering for it.
