| Developing Talent Reading some of the other threads such as the one on Montario and the Fulmer thread has me thinking. I remember the September 01 Syracuse game when the lead was extended and Cedric Houston and (I think) Derrick Tinsley as true freshman both scored touchdowns. The announcers went on and on about the stable of freshman running backs at Tennessee, how highly they were ranked in recruiting and how good they were suppose to be. Do you think they were just busts or that they weren't develped? Jabari Davis was in that class and then the next year Gerald Riggs but none ever toted the rock like the previous backs. (Plainly I thought they sucked)! Posted via VolNation Mobile |

| Cedric Houston had a chance to be special, but he had a thyroid condition that went undiagnosed while he was at UT that caused him to fatigue quickly during physical activity. The coaching staff thought it was poor conditioning and pushed him harder, which made things worse. If his condition had been caught early enough, he could have been placed on meds and might have had a different career.
Jabari Greer was a bust - was just too slow and not quick enough to juke defenders.
Riggs had moments of brilliance, like the SEC championship game against Auburn, but not a whole lot else |

| Oh, and Derrick Tinsley - just couldn't find the right fit to be an every play back. But, had a memorable end around run for the 2 pt conversion on the road vs Miami that gave us the win. |

Posted via VolNation Mobile | Riggs was inconsistent but had some good games (SECC '07), Coaches couldn't figure Tinsley out in playcalling as he was kind of a tweener, but he did win the Miami game for us. Houston was a workhorse. Honestly, playcalling was so erractic during some of those days that definitely contributed (Sanders, Cut, and Fulmer). Davis was just flat-out a bust, but was very highly rated. |

The SECCG, was that the one he had an open field and Riggs still ran into the safety/CB? Posted via VolNation Mobile |

Remember that big run he busted open on the first series of the Miami game in Knoxville? He was caught from behind because he just got gased from his condition. Bet you can youtube it and see it. |

Bet you can youtube it and see it. | Ah yes, I remember that! To be honest, even in my prime, if I'd just ran 90 yards I would have been gassed too! I remember Fulmer commenting on that play during his show the next day... My reference to this post is how it seems to me that until Kiffen arrived and Montario was ready we didnt have a feature back worth a flip. That was like for seven years! Granted, some couldn't stay away from left handed cigarettes but from 87'-Cobb through 01'-Stephens we had at least one awsome back. Posted via VolNation Mobile |

| Got to be talking about Jabari (J Train) Davis. Jabari Greer played CB and has had a pretty good NFL career. |
