Making a Large Lump-Sum Donation

I think this has been discussed before but I can't find where.

I've heard of people donating a large sum to academic departments and, in return, getting football tickets every year.

Does anyone have information on this?

Try utsports.com under the Tennessee Fund tab.

I already donate through the Tennessee fund. I'm not interested in donating to athletics. I want to know about donating to an academic department. I've heard of people doing this and still getting football tickets.

Depends on the amount you are willing to shell out.

With the state of the economy and the ticket issues we are having I would guess that figure is much lower than before. I would assume a donor would have an easy negotiation ATP to get a few extra perks.

Golf, think in the 20,000 range. That's what it use to take but I agree they may be getting desperate.

Another question, since you get tickets out of the deal how much of that donation is tax deductible?

I'm sure it would be treated similarly to a donation to athletics.

I'm not terribly concerned with the tax write-off

Speak to the department head you wish to donate to directly, first. This will save you a bunch of time. About $25,000 used to get you a meeting. It is substantially less now.
