What is par for this course?

There are lots of expectations at various levels for the upcoming season. Some simply expect Dooley to fail. Some hope he does. Others expect great success. I suspect that the majority expects some degree of improved mediocrity ... whatever that means. So, I want to see what the expectations really are. To borrow a golf term, what is PAR for 2012?

I think it'll be more in the 8 range but a key win vs FL or Bama could make it go as low as 7 wins.

If we beat Florida and only win 7 then we are losing to some very sorry teams.

Par means the excepted number. Thus, he is saying if we beat Bama or Florida, people would be happy with 7 wins and any more than that would be a birdie or an eagle.

Realistic expectations for me. 8-4 with a Bowl Game.

9-3 with a run at the SEC E and a Bowl Win Is doable. (prediction at best right now, but could happen)

10-2 or better, Bowl Win, SEC Champs Unlikely.

NC's Huh uh.

I'd have to see the schedule right in front of me because I like to go in depth, but I'd say that PAR is 7 for Tennessee this year. If we stay healthy then I think 7 is PAR, 8 is good, and 9+ is great for us. We still don't have the players to post 10, 11, or 12 wins throughout the entire roster, but I think we are still good enough to win 9, MAYBE 10 with some luck.

GO VOLS!!!

Right. And I would be teed off.

This team should win 9 games, plain and simple. If Dooley can't get 9 wins out of this group he will never win a championship and should be ushered out. So if I'm Hart, 9 is par for me. I am not speaking for what the fan base as a whole expects --it's pretty obvious that anyone under the age of 20 around here has grown accustomed to mediocrity and will likely accept it-- I am just giving my expectations. 9 is a par. Anything more is a birdie or better. To me, the teams that we do it against doesn't matter. I will enjoy wins against Bama and Florida more. But those won't make up for losing to Vandy and Kentucky (if we do.)

With the schedule we have, I'd say 9 is par.. With the experience we have now and the overall quality of depth we have at most (key word, most) positions, 8 wins is too low for par IMO.

Acceptable losses are:
Bama
UGA

A reasonable loss would be against either SCJr or MS State (or possibly Mizzou depending on how well they adjust to the SEC).

I will say that I don't think an 8-win season would necessarily sink the ship, but it all depends on the severity of the losses (are we competitive or do we get blown out in the 2nd half a-la 2011?) and whether or not there is noticeable improvement throughout the course of the season.

My 2 pennies....GBO!

I said PAR was 7 but I change my mind. With this roster we should win 8 games at the least because I'm counting at least 7 wins and then winning a bowl game. That to me is just par and I really hope that we can win 9 or 10.

Tennessee needs and deserves for something good to happen. The program has been through a lot the last 4 years and the program is too good to stay down this long.

I live in South Carolina and I remember when the Gamecocks went through that 0-21 stretch and people around here were disappointed, but it wasn't that bad to them because they were so used to losing games. I can understand that because South Carolina doesn't have the prestige that Tennessee does, they don't have the facilities either. Fans here accepted it and still packed out Williams-Brice, but at Tennessee it can't be that way. The program is too good and rich in tradition to stay down that long...something good is bound to happen.

GO VOLS!!!
