| The Section 103 Postgame Report 1. In a rapidly changing world, it is good to have some things that remain constant. For example, Ted Valentine still sucks.
2. Technical Teddy and his two cohorts must have thought they were being paid by the whistle. 15 fouls in the first 6:38 of the game is a bit much.
3. If Pete DeBusk wants something to create a buzz about LMU, he'll give them the funds to hire a real basketball coach who can get them back to the level of the Roger Vannoy/Phil Cox years. He'll get a better return on that than building a faux medical school or opening a fourth rate law school.
4. Hopson has asserted himself against inferior competition in the exhibition games, which is encouraging. The next test comes when Chris Kramer or Reggie Jackson smashes him in the chest with a forearm in the Virgin Islands.
5. This is an odd team. Their ballhandling is awful, but they are pretty good passers.
6. The halfcourt defense looked alright. The press is still a work in progress.
7. Will someone please ask the dance team to get a new routine? If you are using a song that references "a record machine," that's not fresh.
8. The halftime music raised a question for me. If "the damn thing's gone wild," why didn't the Department of Children's Services take action against Black Betty's child.
9. Bobby Maze is going to have to play 30 minutes a night. Goins is no more than a spot player.
10. Pearl has plenty of work to do in the next week plus. Dave Loos' bunch will be much better than anything they've faced so far. Posted via VolNation Mobile |

| Teddy V can make even a 'net-cast unwatchable. He's a disgrace.
I laughed pretty hard at #3.
I thought Hopson, Maze, and Hall each had a pretty good night. Would like to see more from Tyler.

Posted via VolNation Mobile | I agree on all the observations except I felt that Goins actually looks better defensively than Maze. I wonder with Maze's inconsistency offensively, if it wouldn't be better having Goins out there just for on-ball defense. |

| What are your expectations for the three newcomers after two exhibition games hat? Is it safe to assume Hall is a player and the other guys are not upgrades? |

I think you are giving LMU a little too much credit in 3. "Faux" and "Fourth Rate" may be too strong of words for those buildings with "students" in them. |

| I know last year a lot of guys got playing time in exhibitions then ended up riding the pine more than playing, but I have to think McBee is going to see quite a bit of PT. He's the only consistent outside shooter we've got. Other guys can shoot but not consistently. Hopson's shot looks a hundred times better than last year. It doesn't leave, then reenter, the TV screen every time he launches a three... |

| Looks like Woolridge and/or Williams will be left out of the permanent rotation. Kenny Hall is coming along nicely. |

I'll reserve judgment on McBee until I see if he can get his shot off against actual D-I players. Goins is what I expected. Posted via VolNation Mobile |

| I'm no fan of McBee, but I do hope that with our athleticism it will open him up for a lot of uncontested looks.

| Seems like Ted Valentine spends a lot of his time in Knoxville during bball season. I feel a lot worse about the game when I see him officiating. |

| Well if Humphrey's for Florida could get off shots, as well as Chris Lofton, McBee should be able to. Each of the other guys got shots off regularly while neither one was quick, had more than a 12" vertical, etc...with our penetration, he should get plenty of open looks and he is a scrapper on D as well. Tying up balls, hustling after loose balls, he may end up being a "Dane Bradshaw" type player with a better shot, once he acclimates to the D-1 game. |

The Big Ten won't use him anymore and the Big Twelve and Big East both have a bunch of coaches who have just flat blackballed him from their games. Posted via VolNation Mobile
