| The Official Tobias Harris Thread Figured he is worthy of his own official thread.
Can anyone fill us in on what Volquest's "War Room" says about T. Harris? Anything new? |

| Well, I try and respect their request for not divulging information from there, but I will say that Kentucky does not appear to be a big factor and that we stand in a good position with both Pinkston and Harris, who talk to one another. |

I don't think UK gets either. |

| Per Rivals' Jerry Meyer: Quote:
I wouldn't be surprised if Tennessee landed both Harris and Pinkston. Certainly the competition is thick for Harris, but Tennessee is in a strong position in that race. With Pinkston, Tennessee just might be the leader in a mix with Villanova and St. John's.
The word is that both these New Yorkers are communicating with each other and the possibility of playing together an attractive scenario.
If Tennessee were to pull off a double play, the Volunteers would be right there with cross-state rival Memphis for the No. 2 spot in the current rankings. I know Coach Bruce Pearl says Memphis isn't a rival because both schools aren't in the same conference, but I don't know how he could deny that the two schools are vicious recruiting rivals.
Memphis' class is attractive because of the elite backcourt of Joe Jackson and Will Barton. At this point, though, the class lacks a big man, and this hypothetical Tennessee class has better balance. It would have an elite power forward in Harris and a rugged and solid four-star prospect in Pinkston to go along with a top-60 combo guard in Trae Golden and a skilled top-50 wing player in Jordan McRae.
I might not even have to make this call because it is far from a sure thing that Tennessee lands both Harris and Pinkston. In fact, Tennessee could easily come up empty on both prospects. Nonetheless, I probably would give this hypothetical Tennessee class the edge over Memphis, at least the way I see it now.

| Great stuff. There's also a good read in another mailbag about Luc. Getting Harris and Pinkston for basketball and Luc for football would be unreal. |

| Pearl would get more credit We know this football staff is elite in terms of recruiting.
Much harder to sell us the same in terms of basketball.
The number one difference is TN football players in the NFL as of late, and guys our staff put in the NFL from other programs and TN bball putting guys in the NBA.
A great season and Tyler Smith working his way to a lottery pick will go a long way, and Tobias Harris has the potential to even be better than T Smith doing the same point forward position.
This season is the most crucial one of Bruce Pearls tenure. I think he knows that as well, and I expect greatness against UK, Kansas and Memphis while the country watches and a great seed to help us move to the program first Elite 8 this year. |

| I hope you're right. If we get neither Harris nor Pinkston and lose in the NCAA's first weekend, I fear that Bruce's program will begin a steep decline. On the other hand, if we get both of those guys, make the Elite Eight, and have multiple guys drafted next summer...well, that would mean Bruce is going to stay competitive with KY for the long haul, and someone on VN will have a lot of crow to eat.
We can only hope. I hope it all plays out in our favor. Go Bruce! |
