| Red-hot rivalries for college basketball Red-hot college basketball rivalries for the 2009 season - ESPN
Kentucky and Louisville sits at number 1
Kentucky and Tennessee sits at number 3
3. Kentucky-Tennessee
Why It's Hot Now: Bruce Pearl versus John Calipari was great theater when they met once a year. Now it's on twice annually, at least. The two hypercompetitive hams direct teams that should battle for the SEC Eastern Division title. Pearl's Volunteers spoiled Calipari's undefeated regular season at Memphis in 2007-08, then the Tigers returned the favor with a victory in Knoxville last winter. Kentucky-Tennessee hasn't had this much heat since the late Ray Mears (original wearer of the orange blazer) was tweaking Adolph Rupp and Joe B. Hall.
Upper Hand Today: Kentucky surprisingly swept the Vols last year amid a terrible season, highlighted by Jodie Meeks' 54 points in Knoxville. And thanks to Calipari's spring recruiting work, the Cats should start the season ahead of Tennessee in the polls as well.
Upper Hand Historically: Kentucky has the upper hand historically on everyone in the SEC, and this is no exception. Cats lead the all-time series 142-65.
Smokey to Scratch: Let us be the first to extend a warm SEC welcome to Coach Vacated.
Scratch to Smokey: Jodie Meeks is still open. |

If you wanna talk about Cats and Cards, send it to the NCAA forum.

As for the topic of this thread, I think its nothing but good PR for both schools. Probably the winner of the battle is UT. UK would get the publicity anyway with what all has happened so far this off-season. UT being the next biggest power in the east, deserves the right to be the contender. I think thats a fair statement.
Not to mention the great orange one's record against Calipari coached teams is quite competitve. |

Sorry if my post here offended anyone, but I just put the UK-UL one up out of instinct..thats something I'm interested in, so I just posted..I didnt really think about it..I didnt really know I had to. But please, check my posts, this was only my second aggresive post. The rest have been very level. From predicting Tennessee's starting 5 next year to complimenting Bruce Pearl on his success here at UT, I think Ive been a very level poster. Again, sorry if I offended anyone, I just felt sort of attacked by being criticized for posting.
But as far as this thread goes lol, I'm looking forward to seeing UT and UK go at it each year..Coach Cal only adds to the depth of the rivalry, and Pearl has done very nicely againt Calpari coached teams, so we'll just have to see! |

There are mental under achievers on this board, just as there are on any other board. (especially UK boards) However there are lots of good and knowledgeable people around here also, and name calling and other such things are not the way to be respected or accepted on rival boards. I just want you to enjoy the experience here instead of getting kicked off. |

For now, I wouldn't make off-base comments about something you don't understand, because you'll only end up with pie in your face.

Like I said I apologize, it was only natural for me to put the UK-UL one up there as well just because thats something that interests me. I apologize, and I'll do my best to keep my UK stuff in the ncaa board. |

The reason I said that was simply that just about anything, even that small, can spark discussion about that. This could have ended up being a huge discussion about Cats/Cards, instead of Cats/Vols, with the latter being the purpose of this forum.
