My only real complaint about Hambone is getting UT in these long-term extensions with coaches that aren't going anywhere (Fulmer).

at least we're making tourneys rather than being a team so bad that it's questionable whether the NIT really wants to invite them just so they can lose a first round NIT game again

If all we want to do is make the tourney then we could pay somebody alot less money to do so...

I'm saying it was a lot worse before he came. He's done a hell of a job turning this team around from sitting in the cellar in the east to winning the division 3 out of 4 years. And from a team that didn't even sniff the tournament to one that makes it to the 2nd round each year. It's not big basketball school fantastic, but it's much better than what it was.

And the big contract numbers and years are really just to discourage other schools from signing him....since we've spent the last 2 years w/ espn talking about how indiana/whoever is going to sign him that offseason.

Unless his buyout went way up. He was not going to Indiana.

You'd think that we had Pitino, Calipari, or Coach K with the way Hamilton is trying to make sure Pearl stays here forever.

Considering 80% of the fanbase is in the "well he has us better than we used to be crowd and could care less about improvement" it doesn't really surprise me...

Pearl is just the sort of guy UT needed to get its program to the next level. Like some of you said, UT went from being a celler dweller in the east to making the tournament every year. But now its time to sign a bigger guy, a bigger name, who can elevate UT to an elite eight/final four status. If my memory serves me right, Tennessee has never made the final four, so I think its time for them to pull in a big name and try to reach that level.

Totally against long term contracts. Seems as though he would have learned a lesson with signing the last UT football coach with such a lucrative, long term, buy-out contract.Apparently MBA Mike doesn't understand the prinicples of economics.
