How is it that the 4 teams that play on Wed Night, advance to potentially play the 3 and 4 seed as opposed to the 1 and 2 seed? What was or is the reasoning for this?

My best guess is that the 1/2 seeds have 2 teams to prepare for during the week leading up to the tournament instead of 3.

I really don’t know though, was wondering the same thing a few days ago.

Those bottom 4 teams are expected to lose. In that case the 3/4 teams would be playing the higher remaining seeds (5/6) and the 1/2 teams would be playing the 7/8 teams. But when the bottom four teams win then 3/4 gets the benefit.

In the NHL and NFL teams are reseeded after each round. In that case the lowest remaining seed always has to play the highest remaining seed.

Because its more likely that the 3 and 4 play the 5 and 6, assuming chalk wins.

The soonest the 1 and 2 will have to play that high of a seed is the semifinals.
