It was 16 teams wasn't it? Hence the name Vegas 16? I honestly can't remember but why was it called Vegas 16 if there was only 8 teams in it?

Again, I can't remember for sure. It may have been the Bucs made the semifinals. I know they won one game & then lost & was put out. Thanks!

It was supposed to be 16 teams but they couldn't get 16 teams to commit, so they made it 8.

Even if it was 16 teams, ETSU making it past one game to the "final 8" (lol) in a mid-major tournament is far from impressive.

Ehh I bet our guys would be disappointed with anything less than an NIT appearance.
Try this out. Forbes gave ETSU a nice post season tournament last year. They beat La Tech and lost to Oakland in the Las Vegas 16 which turned out to be 8 teams since only 8 were available. There were a couple of Power 5 schools who considered but did not commit. The reason was that many teams chose to forego post season play and missed the boat on this one. The inaugural tourney was at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in a 12,000-seat indoor arena at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, on the Las Vegas Strip, in Paradise, Nevada. Guess what? Money. All expenses were paid by the tournament.

NIT or NCAA only. You don't take an invite to the other tourneys.

Forbes could have easily gone to one of the other mid-major tournaments. A 23-11 record was not good enough for the NIT which many of you believe Tennessee should never accept. I remember a lot of you saying NCAA or bust. Instead he played his cards perfectly and rewarded his 24-12 team with a nice trip to Las Vegas for all the work they put in during the year.

By the way, Furman has a 9 game winning streak and is 11-2 in the conference, ETSU is in second at 10-3, and Chattanooga tied with UNCG at 9-4.

I think it's cute that it's some big deal that they chose one mid-major tournament nobody cares about over another mid-major tournament, especially considering 2 of them couldn't even find enough teams to fill out their original number they wanted. I mean how bold to accept a bid to tournament that could only field half the teams they wanted.

Imma also going to need a link to where anyone said UT should NEVER accept an NIT bid.

And give me a break, you've got no room to talk about anyone getting salty or "creating an argument" Mr. Medical Redshirt/Fifth-Year Senior. You are the one who got salty first in this thread buddy. It's a messageboard, if you don't like people responding to your claims, then put me on ignore.
I answered when you challenged my comment that there's more pent up demand this year than most. For the third time... TN went to the post season 9 straight years and haven't been in a post season game for 3 years now. That creates pent up demand. The reason that huge numbers attended the Tax Slayer Bowl two years ago wasn't because second tier bowl games are awesome. It was because there was much pent up demand.

The back and forth that you jumped into was about paying a fee for an invite to the CBI. It wasn't about filling up the arena. You drug that **** in from an ongoing argument in another thread. There's a difference between responding and trolling for an argument. You're doing the latter.

Good lord....you're reaching SD levels here. I'm challenging your comment because you still haven't answered it.

As I've pointed out, you're already dancing around your original claim by saying you never claimed a big crowd. So give me a number, what's a crowd size to a CBI game that would prove this so called demand of yours? 8K? 10K? If 3K tickets were sold, are you going to actually try to argue that proves some "pent up demand"?

Good lord....you're reaching stalker levels here. My reply was addressing a comment about spending thousands of dollars on a tourney participation fee. THIS YEAR they should be able to sell some tickets because fans haven't seen TN in a post season tournament for three years now after participating in 9 straight.

Enough demand to make it economically practical, despite having to pay an entrance fee or guarantee a minimum number of tickets sold, in order to join the CBI field.

I'm not sure why you're obsessed with arguing about "pent up demand".

So "pent up demand" now means "enough demand to be economically viable"....which again, isn't really an answer, and I'm pretty sure you're the only one here that would describe "pent up demand" that way.
