Freshmen scored 41 of UT’s 69 points (59 percent) in Friday’s season-opening setback vs. Chattanooga.

Despite its lack of height, Tennessee blocked seven shots in its season-opener Friday.

Sophomore forward Kyle Alexander quietly set a new career-high for scoring with seven points in Friday’s opener vs. Chattanooga. He also had four blocks and eight boards.

Allow the Vols to avoid losing home non-conference games consecutively*, which hasn’t happened since 2012-13 (Memphis and Mercer).
*not back-to-back games

Prevent Tennessee’s first 0-2 start since the 1965-66 season (losses at Michigan and vs. Vanderbilt).

Thanks for posting this. Interesting that the first game wasn't until December.

Well they played less games then, so I assume thats why it started later. Its amazing to see the conferences as we know them compared to back in the day.

App State won 9 games last season. Hopefully our guys can get on track. Lose this one they might not win 10.

Have an off night with a team that's less than a quarter upperclassmen and any game can be a loss. Player development is more important than wins/losses at this stage. The ceiling this year is the NIT. A huge faction of the "fan" base will be bailing out this year no matter what. Even if TN is able to have a winning record and a run in the NIT there will be a bunch of moronic, foolish, dolts that will be disappointed and loudly express their feelings.

There is no reason UT should lose this game, even with a lot of underclassmen and inexperience. App St isn't good. Neither is UT, but they should be head and shoulders above App St.

If UT makes the NIT this year, it'll be a small miracle. The SEC will have to be god awful for that to happen. Yet, the sheep in here will continue to say that Barnes has the team on the right track, just give him time and that it takes years and years to build a hoops program (when it really doesn't) that everyone can be proud of.

Regarding college basketball parity, it took 18 wins to get an at large bid to the NIT in 2016. There were a total of 100 teams in the NCAA and NIT tournaments.

Got a question. Davidson is a good basketball team predicted to finish 4th in the A10. The only point of comparison that we have between Appy and Tennessee is that Tennessee scrimmaged Davidson and Appy opened at Davidson. 247 reported that Davidson was ahead about 3/4 of the game when stats were kept and Tennessee rallied to beat them when they stopped keeping stats. In the game with Davidson the scored was tied 66-66 with 7:53 to go when Davidson went on a run to win 86-74. Appy did put 4 players in double figures. Is this game a gimme?

I'd say with the line being what it is, it's as close to a gimme as Tennessee will have all season

Don't think any game should be considered a gimme

FYI this is a game thread. Plenty of other threads to argue about Barnes
