Should Rick pursue this Big Man?

Even though he'd have to sit a year, I'd like to have him, especially since we missed out on Swanigan (as expected).

No we shouldn't. Guy was rated based on his potential, and so far that hasn't paid off at all.

Averaged 10mpg as a freshman in the big east. He's not KAT or he would've been ranked top 5, but guys his size with coordination don't grow on trees, he will get some major looks, in fact Kansas is thought to be the favorite, no reason we should turn our nose up at this guy.

You've said it yourself to MemphisCanes that the Big East is a subpar conference compared to what it used to be. So don't pull the "he's in the Big East" card. Why would we take a guy who had a hard time grabbing minutes? Okay. Kansas goes for transfer big men every year, that's nothing new in their book and a lot of them don't always pan out anyway. If we had a big men who was that highly rated, averaging what he averaged, we would have ran him off ourselves. Jmo.

He was also trying to play SG as a 6-7 250lb forward. There were reasons Steven Pearl was getting more minutes than Maymon other than having his dad as the coach. :hi:

Whose that one douche who keeps liking every post you post?

Again, he wasn't playing SG at Tennessee
Thats what he thought of himself as and it's the coaching staff's job to tell a player what their 'forte' on the court is so to speak. There were also direct quotes from Maymon and IIRC Maymon's father. It's been 5 years, quotes will probably be hard to find.

It's okay to be wrong every once in a while.

I found this

@MarkSteez: This SG/SF for Tennessee is no joke. Jeronne Maymon 32Pts x 20 Rebs. In double OT. #StraightBeastin

I don't think Maymon ever viewed himself as a SG by definition, but he definitely signed with Marquette and transferred to Tennessee with the idea that he was much more a perimeter-oriented SF than his skills actually suggested, and his playing time suffered as a result.

Good find Dallas. I'll ignore the "learn how to search the internet" comment made BTO's inner child.

Here's a telling quote, and Chris, that's a very good point.

From what I got out of the comments from Maymon’s father, Jeronne felt like he should have been a bigger part of the offense while playing a different position, at one point (Jeronne's father) was saying “they’ve got him playing center and that ain’t what he does.”

If he was not a center, what was he? Maybe he didn't see himself solely as a 2 (like Chris said) but it seemed telling that Maymon felt like his skill set was more perimeter-based?
