Excerpt:
"Rick Barnes to Tennessee? For a school that spectacularly blew its last hire (the thoroughly-investigated, quickly-discarded Donnie Tyndall), the Volunteers may have lucked into an upgrade on the rebound. Barnes took the job about five minutes after being forced out at Texas. If he regains the motivation level he showed early in his time in Austin, this may work out splendidly. If not, then hiring a guy who recruited Final Four talent but hasn’t made the Sweet 16 since 2008 may not work out that gloriously."

His two big IFs seem to reflect the consensus among the basketball pundits.

Josh Richardson, the Tyndall Terror Defense, and the pit bull never say die tenaciousness instilled in the players won 16 games with a ,500 record last year and came close in a bunch more. All of that is gone except the grit in the remaining players. We will now be playing the same defense as the rest of the league which they don't even have to prepare for. They can concentrate on their offense. If we don't soon have some major recruits besides Tyndall's, it could be interesting this coming year.

He starts getting us to the tournament consistently and puts us back on solid footing....I'll be happy. I'm not counting on sweet 16 and elite 8's right now.

That guy committed professional suicide.

Thankfully he was discovered and outed before he did any lasting damage to UT.

I'm sure a coach that has been getting teams to the tourney for 20+ years knows what he is doing. But let's not bring facts into this, just what if's.

An article for "clicks". What we have come to expect in sports journalism - that could have been written by a freshman college student.

CDT did some good things in his tenure, but, as 1200DPI said, he committed career suicide. I don't get the Barnes will not get them into the Sweet Sixteen or Elite Eight stuff at all. That's the old best predictor of future behavior is historical performance thing. Maybe at Texas that "might" have been true. Truth is he got them to the Final Four and 3 Elite Eights. Everything cycles. There was no reason to assume they would not get back to that point again since they were making the tourney every year. At UT he walks in as an open book to build with plenty of recruiting connections/resources/support in a less competitive conference. He gets it done IMO.

Major recruits besides Tyndall's? Really? Just who would those guys be? Punter and Baulkman are seniors, and thus far, average SEC players at best. Mostella has potential, but needs some things to happen for him to reach it. Carmichael is a lost cause by all appearances, and that coming from someone who is typically very patient with freshmen. McGhee is still mostly a complete unknown so far, but showed more promise in 8 games than Carmichael did in 32.

Lol what? The 2 best players on last years team were both CCM recruits, I will just about guarantee Barnes wins more than 16 games at Tennessee this season.

Can you guys even think straight? We have no recruits at the moment but Tyndall's. The major recruits we need have to come from Barnes or else we are hurting this year. Hopefully, Barnes will not be playing with all Tyndall players which is what he has at the moment.

So we have Tyndall's players, but we NEED Barnes' players? This would imply that Tyndall didn't recruit well, right SD?

I thought Armani Moore, Derek Reese and Robert Hubbs were Cuonzo Martin recruits, no?

Stirring the pot with the evaluation of every major coach. He will either fail because of this reason or he will succeed

No, it implied that they were recruited for Tyndall's system. Now Barnes has the task of converting them to his system even though there skill sets may be different than players he would recruit.

Let's put it this way, all we have right now is last year's team minus 1 and two Tyndall signees. Doesn't matter who recruited who. Barnes has to supplement these players who were not recruited for his system with new players and make a cohesive team. Not an easy task!

But I'm guessing it's a task he will have no problem taking on and winning 16+ games with.
