Heard Hyams mention him on 104.5 The Zone out of Nashville this morning. I hadn't really considered him, but he might be worth looking at. It seemed like he was perpetually on the hot seat at MSU, but his teams always seemed to be competitive.

Thoughts?

(Please feel free to merge if already a thread on him).

A coach with a final four appearance and a .641 winning percentage? I'll say give him a ring. He isn't a bad coach.

Would be a grear hire Not a home run, but a great hire for x' s and o's kind of guy. He had competitive teams at Miss State. Recruiting to play in Miss and be competitive at the same time is a win.

That was sort of my thought as well. If you can recruit to freakin' Starkville, MS and be somewhat successful there, which he definitely was, then what could he do in Knoxville with UT's resources.

Also, no buyout concerns.

Experienced at this level, very good winning percentage, always competitive, good recruiter. But many want to quickly dismiss him.

Guys, sorry but we ain't getting John Wooden.

He's not afraid to cheat.
That's what we need if we want a chance at being relevant.

This was my concern. He seemed to be able to get guys that would have never even looked at Miss St before. If he was playing fair though, I would think that he would be an excellent hire.

Stansbury wasn't the coach when they went to the Final Four ('96). That was Richard Williams. The farthest Stansbury ever got was Round of 32.

He basically made the NCAA tourney every other year, which I think most REALISTIC UT fans would be happy with.

I'm sorry but if it gets to Stansbury you sion.hould've just kept Zo, good gosh.

It doesn't appear that keeping Zo was an option.
I'm not suggesting Stansberry is a home run hire, I just think those that immediately dismiss him aren't being realistic. Personally, I'd prefer White but Stansberry has o be in the conversation.

They could've definitely kept Zo if they wanted to
