Hart mentioned he wants someone to recruit. I believe that is extremely high on his list. Look at what CBJ did. He's a recruiting maniac.

Currently, who are probably the best recruiters out there?

Well, I would think Rick Byrd could recruit having taken Belmont to the NCAA tournament 6 of the last 9 years, and unfortunately playing a one or two seed in the first round! Belmont University men's basketball student-athletes J.J. Mann (Smyrna, Ga.) and Craig Bradshaw (Ridgetop, Tenn.) have been named to the 2013-14 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District Team. Mann, who earned OVC Player of the Year and First Team All-OVC honors in leading Belmont to a fifth consecutive conference regular season championship and postseason berth for the ninth time in 11 years, recently set the Bruins' NCAA era single-season scoring mark with 604 points to date. Mann was also an AP honorable mention All-American.The Smyrna, Ga. native also led Belmont to victory at six-time National Champion North Carolina Nov. 17.
Bradshaw, who ranks among the NCAA leaders in effective field goal percentage among guards and single-season scoring improvement from last season to this season, earned Second Team All-OVC honors. The 6-3 guard tallied 19 consecutive double figure scoring games over a two-month stretch.
Oh, by the way for the third time in the last four years Rick is a finalist for the Hugh Durham National Coach of the Year Award. Belmont also won the OVC Team Sportsmanship Award

Look at the schools that are consistently in the "Big Dance" that are from mid major conferences such as Dayton, VCU, and Gonzaga and you have to believe these coaching staffs are good recruiters or they wouldn't be there. I would like to see what Archie Miller could do at UT. I believe the Vols will end up better off with the next Hart hire.

Ben Howland CAN'T recruit. That's his weakness. But he's a good in game coach.....

We need a coach who will aggressively and successfully recruit three areas. Atlanta, Memphis and all around Tennessee primarily. Tons of home grown and regional talent. Athleticism and pure shooters.

Damn, how do you guys get 60 is too old? I bet a lot of posters on here will disagree with you young studs! Anyway, these are the recruits coming on board at Belmont.

Belmont University men's basketball signee Mack Mercer (Plymouth, Ind.) has been named to the 2014 Indiana Boys' Basketball All-Star Team, the Indianapolis Star announced. Mercer averaged 17.1 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.1 blocked shots and 2.0 assists per game as a senior for Plymouth High School. One of the most skilled and heralded prep players in Indiana, Mercer joins a strong tradition of Belmont players from the Hoosier State, including current Bruins Spencer Turner and Jeff Laidig.
A spot on the 13-member Indiana All-Stars' roster is among the highest honors handed out in prep basketball.

Belmont University men's basketball signee Amanze Egekeze (pronounced uh-MAHN-zee eg-uh-KAY-zee) (Huntley, Ill.) has been named 2013-14 Chicago Courier-News Player of the Year. The 6-8 forward averaged 17.8 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.7 blocked shots per game in leading Huntley (IL) High School to a fourth straight Fox Valley league title and a third Illinois regional crown in four years. Egekeze finished his career with 1,115 points.

Say what? His last recruiting class was top 5 and had two recruits from Atlanta...

Howland is the most proven recruiter we are going after. He might not be the best, but he's the most proven that has pulled in top 10 classes.

He didn't exactly land them. He hired their AAU coach on his staff and shortly thereafter things went south. And recruiting at UCLA isn't really indicative of a coaches skill level.

Nowhere near the same type of coach as CBJ. Cronin is a clown and not classy at all. If he were our coach I would be a little embarrassed.

WOW! Howland sure has signed a bunch of 5 star and 4 star players in his career. He has by FAR the best recruiting history of any candidate for the job!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe he has just been lucky in the past in recruiting:birgits_giggle:

Bring on that kind of luck to the Vols!!!

So how did he land Kyle Anderson?

True, but many had questionable character issues which lead to the lack organizational control.

The two most (realistic) coaches that can recruit IMO would be:

Ben Howland: See his last year at UCLA, he pulled a huge class with two of those being from GA. His downfall at UCLA seems to be from his lack of tact in recruiting. Howland was able to pull in big classes, but often times that required him to overlook/blow-off serious talent in So.Cal. that really wanted to be at UCLA. His best UCLA teams consisted of So.Cal. players who fit his team structure well. When he needed results, Howland looked to grab the future NBA guys that lacked team chemistry (see Shabazz Muhammad) and thus began his downfall. I think that was a lesson learned for him, and he can definitely recruit. He is also a great coach. I'd love to see him at Tennessee.

Dino Gaudio: He was one of Skip Prosser's best recruiters as an assistant before his untimely death. I had no clue that he was already 57 until a second ago, but Dino did well recruiting players in both N.C. and Georgia. Gaudio was a big part in getting Al-Farouq Aminu to go to Wake Forest. Dino's biggest knock is that while he can recruit, his in-game coaching abilities seem to be lacking and his teams fall off dramatically at the end of the season. Probably not the best fit here, but would not do a bad job.

Tenn has never had a coach successfully recruit Memphis. Y'all may get a player or 2 every now and then, but Memphis is going to get 90% of the top players out of the city. Stokes,Tony Harris - maybe Lamarcus Golden. They are the only kids from Memphis that the Tigers really wanted and didn't get over the last 15-20 years.

It's not hard to recruit kids to Memphis. Hell if Paster can get them to stay at Memphis than anybody can.

My alma mater! What Rick Byrd has done at Belmont is nothing short of amazing. Unfortunately, most will ask if he's so good, why has he been stuck at Belmont for over 25 years? Where's the upward mobility? Where's the success at another higher profile school? And I think those are valid questions.

Currently, who are probably the best recruiters out there?

Kurtis Townsend, assistant coach at Kansas.
