Here's a man who looks very happy

He didn't even have the nads to tell his players about his decision to their faces. Academics? Laughable. This was a Kiffenesque move made by a deep down poser. Last, if you can't appreciate the city of Knoxville and the beauty of East Tennessee, then get the hell out. Yesterday isn't soon enough.

Be careful what you wish for. You might just end up not liking it. I recall about 50% of the fan base wanted to get rid of Phil Fulmer too. How has that worked out so far???

"Vols fans, no doubt, will say that Cal will fail and good riddance and thatÂ’s fine. Hell hath no fury like a fan base scorned.

And thatÂ’s OK, too.

But remove the anger and what you see is a coach who was far from an epic failure. He went 63-41 in his three seasons, finishing in the top five of the SEC in each season.

This despite the stain and strain of NCAA sanctions.

In a lot of places that would merit a raise, a contract extension and a heap of praise.

At Tennessee, it got Martin a heap of nothing. Impatient fans and lukewarm administrators never really gave Martin a chance -- Indiana fans, with a bit more basketball dog in the fight, gave Tom Crean a longer leash.

And now the Vols got what they stopped wanting and exactly what they deserved. "

To summarize: TN fans need to be satisfied and appreciate mediocrity.

Surely you're not trying to compare Cuonzo to Fulmer.

Nope, just the circumstances on how some UT fans are never satisfied and always think the " next " coach is going to be the home run hire. How many times has that worked out? Kiffin for Fulmer, Raleigh for Delmonico, Houston for DeVoe, Peterson for Green. ZERO times!

He "loved and trusted" his Vol family so much that his first order of business for Cal was to snag a kid who had verbally committed to UT yesterday.

Nice.

He chose to leave UT. Not too much we could do about it.

If his feelings were hurt because he had a fan base behind him who expected excellence, then he was in the wrong place.

We can do better than Martin. We can also certainly do worse. But let's stop pretending like VolNation had an influence on the outcome here. It's just being used to further a media story.

Why wouldn't he be happy. High potential of a .500 record or worse next season. Rose off the bloom, no way to milk another school for 3-4 years worth of salary. This took care of all that.

We and Zo should thank Cal.

Fail. Pearl for Peterson and Fulmer for Majors both turned out pretty well I would say.
