| Year One in Review It's time for a poll!
Coach Martin has been here for a little over 15 months now.
I'm curious to see where everyone's opinion is on the basketball program.

| I was surprisingly pleased. I really like the toughness and competitiveness of our team. I know that there was a learning curve, but we got so close, and I didn't even expect us to be in the hunt. I like the way he recruits, but I just really like what he wants the team to be character wise. I'm very pleased with the hire. I think it's just going to get better from here. Other people really took notice of what we did last year. |

| Good job, would like to see us land at least 2 good recruits for '13.
I like to think that Martin can get the most out of his players, but 1 season doesn't tell the story.
I like Martin, but I'm not going to predict him to be one of UT's best coaches just yet. But I do think he can be, and I'm optimistic. |

| There is no doubt that the team played with an intensity and effort that we didn't see from Bruce's last couple teams. That's not a knock on Pearl (I liked him a lot), but Martin got a lot out of a little. I can't wait to see what he gets out of a team with significant talent. |

| | VN GURU | First option seems like the best answer to me.
I'm not so sure we're on our way to being a national contender, but I'll believe it if he signs some of these top recruits.
Cuonzo Martin appears to be what people want Derek Dooley to be.

His coaching (I believe) can get us to national prominence even greater than Bruce did. If he can land top 15 classes consistently, I love where we are headed.

| | VN GURU | Hubbs and Nichols would make it three highly rated prospects he was able to sign very early in his career. Recruiting would only improve.

| | VN GURU | I still think a lot could change. Recruits can change their mind quickly.

| Would love to hear from the folks who answered that this was a horrible hire and bad for the program... |

| I think he has done a good job so far but way too early to tell if he is the man to get the job done or not. Getting Hubbs and Nichols would be a nice start. |

| Do you guys think that Martin uses Kentucky's greatness to his advantage in recruiting? Maybe some kids are receptive to the pitch of being a big UK rival and playing them every season? |

I'm in the "good start" category, but they - coaches and players - still have a lot to prove. Coaches have to prove they can close the deal with recruits. Players - especially the perimeter guys - have to show improved skills and prove they can bring it with focus every night.
Good start last year; terrible December; struggled January; excellent February; tanked in March. I know every team has a bad stretch, but good teams limit it to one bad stretch. Have a solid pre-season (Nov/Dec) and be strong in March and you can overcome that struggling January.
I'm especially eager to see the start of the season. I think Coach Martin and staff ...I won't say weren't focused in the beginning...but I don't think they went into the season with post-season aspirations and that affected how they prepared for the December games. Lots of experimentation and not as much focus on winning the game at hand. Came back to bite them when just a couple more December wins would have gotten them into the Dance in March. |
