I feel like "playing the 1" and being a point guard are two entirely different things.
Ramar Smith played the 1, but he was not a point guard.

A shooting guard tasked to play the point, with low-to-average ball-handling skills and a poor eye for passing

I get your point and opinion as we've had this same discussion, but just because a guy plays there I don't think makes that his position.

Jp prince played there for a stretch and at no point would I really call him a PG. Same could be said for Tyler smith.

Sometimes players have to play other positions out of necessity, it works both ways. Eric Bledsoe was a PG, but he played SG because he had to, that doesn't make him a SG though. Dane Bradshaw at times played the 5, at no point in his career is he actually considered a 5.

The reason I said that in the first place, though, was to see how he stacked up against people with similar skill sets. I wouldn't compare a slashing 2-guard with a spot-shooting 2, either.

Here's another question, do you think if CJ was a year younger that we'd have made the Final 4 in 07? I think if CJ was there playing the point instead of Ramar, we could have closed out the Ohio State game for sure, and we'd have still finished off Memphis.

CJ came up big last night. He's not a very efficient scorer, so he should maybe shoot less. He's a good defender and decent distributor.

With Lofton open on the wing.

I mean, it was a clusterfck play, but we still had the open shot to win it. That play is proof enough that Ramar wasn't a "true PG"
