Stat of the Game

Not to be that guy because I'll be honest we definitely should have won this game anyway and over come it, but the two stats that stand out to me are:

Total Team Fouls:
Tennessee: 19
MSU: 10

Free Throws:
Tennessee: 5-7
MSU: 13-17

I honestly thought we got away with a number of fouls. I remember seeing Richardson grab someone by the waist and throw them out of the way to get a rebound and nothing was called. I thought we commited a number of stupid fouls; specifically when our big guys would hedge on the ball screens and jump right into the ball handler.

Yea, I saw the Richardson play and was shocked there was no call. He literally hugged the guy and then threw him to the side.

Tn was getting killed in the paint and not getting any calls.I seen the Richardson play where he did get away with a foul but MS was getting some home cooking calls.

I think the difference was everytime we got an offensive rebound, we would miss the easy put back. MS took advantage of their offensive boards.

This is absolutely the case. Our D was solid but our percentage from the floor was low. A lot of misses came off the offensive put backs. Raise that by a few points and this game was ours.

True, but MSU's percentage was low too. In fact, up until the last couple of shots, both teams had the exact same FG %age.

The point about the fouls is right on.

How many of you were at the game? I was. There weren't a lof of folks wearing orange there.

To whoever said they though our guys got away with some non-calls, you're right. However, not nearly as many as the Bulldogs did. The stats say they had 10 blocks, but they would only have had 1/2 that many if the fouls were called. The non-calls and the bad calls both favored the home team heavily.

Agree, it was. Maybe I giving a bit too much attribution to the Vols D here, but MSU's percentage was very good in the first half (over 50%). Our D looked much more aggressive in the second. A lot of the open lanes that were available in the first were shut off in the second.

And to answer your question, I was not at the game. I can't imagine a big UT crowd traveling. Starkville not exactly a destination...or on the way to anywhere.

We need to box out no matter who is on the floor. It has been our achilles heel all season. We need the KY win Saturday and Stokes needs to play.

Here's the first impression MSU fans make.

It's pre-game. The Vols have come out of the locker room and are involved in their lay-up drill. The Bulldogs come out of the tunnel, led by the cheerleaders and the S T A T E flags, who run all the way down the sideline, along the baseline (this is opposite end from where Vols are doing lay-ups) then down the other sideline. However, they don't go all the way down that sideline. When they get about even with the top of the key, they turn and go diagonally across the lane, right through the middle of the Vols' lay-up drill, causing the Vols' to have to stop and wait for the flags to go by. I was astounded at the lack of courtesy, the rudeness, and it can't have been unintentional.

Then, it comes time to introduce the starting line-ups. Now, I've been to plenty of games, and I've been to them a many different colleges (TBA, UK, Memphis, Vandy, GT, UGA, Bama, MSU, Ole Miss, UNC, to name a few), but I have never seen anybody else do this. After each UT player's name was called, the entire student section yelled "SUCKS!" What are they? 12-year olds? That kind of behavior has to be an embarrassment to the school. It is typical MSU fan behavior though, I suppose. They are obnoxious douchbags (and my son went there for 2 years, while my daughter is a freshman there right now -- neither of them are Bulldog fans though. They are all-Vol).

Exactly. TBA is notorious for yelling "sucks" at opponents. While a student, even during pregame warmups, the student section would rag the opponents. Specifically, yelling "NBA reject" to that Kentucky guy who last second pulled out of the draft.

Yeah, they have dine that since I was in college in the Jerry Green days. If that's the first time you heard that, you haven't been to TBA in a LONG time...like 15+ years.

I think maybe it seemed that way because almost all of MSU's points in the paint came on breakaways or highlight reel alley-oops. In other words, memorable plays. Tennessee's mainly came from putbacks and dirty work plays.

Maymon scored the first six points of the game for us, all in the paint on putbacks or post moves.
